Montoya on pole at Spa

By on

On the longest track of the F1 season, the Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya is on pole for tomorrow's race. Kimi Raikkonen, Montoya's team mate at McLaren joins him on the front row.Jarno Trulli is 3th on the grid with next him Fernando Alonso, the leader in the Championship.

Under a rather sunny sky, Narain Karthikeyan was the first to take the track for his qualifying lap. The two Jordan drivers weren't able to put their new EJ15B's in front of the Dutch Minardi drivers.

Mark Webber had the fastest time after 9 drivers had been on the track. This seemed to change when Jacques Villeneuve started his fast lap. In the first sector, the Canadian, was the fastest, but in the second and third sector Villeneuve lost a lot of time.
After Villeneuve, it was Michael Schumacher who came out the pits for his qualifying lap. He drove an accurate fast lap and temporarily took the pole. Felipe Massa, who will be Schumi's new team mate next year, drove a fantastic lap in his Sauber and placed his car on an 8th place on tomorrow's grid.

During the Qualifying session the sky turned grey and everybody wanted to get on the track as fast as possible before the rain started to drop.

Ralf Schumacher hurried on the track so he would be back in the pits before the rain. He did a good job and he clocked a faster time than his brother.
When Jarno Trulli started his fast lap, it started to drip in the La Source. But Trulli was able to beat his team mates time.

As the 4 last drivers had to come out, the sun was shining again at Spa. Kimi Raikkonen pushed to the limit because he knows what's at stake this weekend. Kimi clocked the fastest time, but Fisichella, Alonso and Montoya still had to take the track.

Giancarlo Fisichella had an engine change and so he recieved a ten-place penalty. (So Fisico will start from the 13th position tomorrow) Fisico drove a great lap, but he was just a little slower than the McLaren of Kimi Raikkonen.
Fisico's team mate was up next. Alonso was faster in the first sector, but he lost a lot of time in the second and third sector. Alonso is 4th on the starting grid tomorrow.

Juan Pablo Montoya, the winner of the Italian GP last week, was the last to come out on the track and drove an incredible lap. With the two McLaren's on the front row, it will be difficult for the Renaults to maintain there lead in the Constructors championship.
