Mental strenght is important in F1

For several months now, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers have been among the top five Formula One drivers with the most points on their tallies. Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica are both of the opinion that these successes can - among other reasons - be put down to their mental strengths.

In 2008 the driver pairing have convinced with their constant performances. In every World Championship round contested to date, at least one BMW Sauber F1 Team driver has succeeded in scoring points, and on seven occasions either Robert or Nick has made it to the podium.

Both drivers regard their mental strength as a vital key factor for these successes. "I think that mental strength is a crucial factor in any sport," says Robert Kubica, "And this applies particularly to Formula One." Nick agrees with his team-mate and adds: "You have to be very strong, mentally. But fortunately, that's exactly what I am."

Robert obtained his personal mental strength a long time before entering Formula One. "The best preparation for me was all those races I contested against strong drivers when I was younger," he says. "As I see it, everybody can be the best mental coach for himself by constantly analysing and understanding his mistakes and approach."
