Force India have come up with a very elegant solution to add a bit of downforce to the central part of the car. Only three weeks after introducing their new sidepods, the sidepod panel is now connected to the rear view mirror. The new aerofoil can be seen as an evolution of a flipup that many teams used during the Grand Prix of monaco. It helps to create downforce while also pulling up air above the sidepod to improve the rear wing's efficiency.
i bet it dont work
what a compelling argument
Well it's possible that some teams have better solutions, particularly with less drag, but if it would not be effective for the Force India, they wouldn't use it ;)
true, but i think it interrupts the airflow to the t wings.
It reminds me a lot of the side pot wings (in front of the side pot) on the last Jordan (thus Midland, Spyker and Forza India) in 2005.
However; because of the double curvature resembling the side pot shape it might be designed to create low pressure behind this winglet to reduce turbulence in front of the side pot.
Creating downforce here will not be very efficient and downforce creating midwings are generally only seen at Monaco. I think these mirror supports have the same purpose as Honda's and BMW's mid wings between the T wings and the airbox.
