Mercedes W10 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter does not belong here.

Looks like back in 2009..
How it looks at the end of the season...

And, now I'm really excited to see the other front wings, and the concept at the rest of the car...

Looks like Merc will be running with a camo testing livery this year.

Wow, so simple wing.
Yep. I doubt we'll see any "final" front wing iterations until Australia.

All the interesting stuff happens closer to the nose.
The height of cultivation is really nothing special. It is merely simplicity; the ability to express the utmost with the minimum. Mr.Lee

100% a testing livery, to me it means they have a lot to hide, Red Bull did it a few years ago, and Merc have never bothered, until maybe now. Why ?

I think it's more to do with the "Switch to EQ" marketing campaign than hiding the car.

Very much so (I think). Mercedes has used the same 'camo' livery for several EQ powered road cars before general release, shown below on the Merc EQ C

That makes sense. A marketing link at a time when, arguably, the cars are most photographed and talked about is a good idea.
Turbo says "Dumpster sounds so much more classy. It's the diamond of the cesspools." oh, and "The Dutch fans are drunk. Maybe"

A white outline on that text would really help them here.

Even though there's a little bit more room for sculpting the profiles, the end product will look very similar to this. The rules are that restrictive. Infact, Mercedes is kind of a showing an exploit through using the camera pod mounting strud as a small cascade.

I was thinking about that earlier wondering how long it will be before someone protests it.

Seems Mercedes is quite confident and also of opinion this is widespread known, so I don't immediately expect protest. It's simply I did not see coming myself after spending a lot of time getting to understand the new regulations. I had to scramble infact to get that into my article  .

I also think so. Such camo just makes sense on road cars to hide their final look. This way it’s very hard to get the full feeling on optics.
However, I don’t think it prevents from analyzing car details in F1 on high resolution pictures shot in testing.

Doesn't it look like the paint type is different. It surely looks Matte like Red Bull's. Doesn't it? 🤔
