Red Bull RB16

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Damn this is a big update.
Also i'd like to remind anyone panicking about the spins, that it was quite windy today.

I believe they are testing the car in its default setup, in order to make reference for overall balance and closer to what they had in last year's winter testing. Therefore they don't seem to worried and actually encouraged that they could achieve good times without the optimal configuration for the track.
Can you define a cars "default setup"?

I have now looked at multiple video's of the RB16 today and last week and I notice a constant sliding / lack of stability at the rear. Also the spins of Max in sector 3.

I think they have a issue with lack of rear downforce again.
also kerb riding.
Other than the broken suspension I have to agree.

The "horizontal" bargeboard roster looks very much like Mercedes. Do you reckon this configuration was already in the planning, or is this some very high-paced copying work?

Those bargeboard were first introduced by Hass so Mercedes are also copying someone

The teams are trying to pull "clean" air down towards the front of the floor etc. and these devices are a good way of doing it. It's a fairly obvious device once you've got the big vortices in place from the vertical boards.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

In 2017 the larger that area of the bargeboards got the quicker the cars were. of course you had to have a good design, but it was clearly paying off back then.

These spins look strange now both for Verstapen and Albon! Do you think they may have some kind of balance problem or maybe aggressive engine braking??

Perhaps its related to engine mapping, maybe mgu-k kicking in in unexpected places. Remember raikkonen spins in canada hairpin few years in a row with this problem.
