Interesting article over at the race regarding the engine upgrade. Binoto says he is still unsure when it will be ready. Apparently its "brand new technology on the hybrid side" which still need homologations and certifications among other things.
On a positive note, he said "It will be as soon as possible because we believe that running it as much as we can this season will be of interest for the next season.". this goes against my theory that they would wait as long as possible to not over-run it and need a 5th. I suppose they WANT to see how durable it is. Maybe we WILL see it before Turkey. [-o<

Won't homologation give away the "brand new" tech to the opposition tho?
Toto definitely has his hands up in the fia pockets
I thought something along these lines also. I believe Homologation will simply mean it’s “Set in stone” for Ferrari, no further updates… but still THEIR intellectual property. If not, then all teams would have access to all other teams’ engine specs year after year. I’m not sure how the Homologation works, so maybe someone else can explain it better.
What I did think about was Ferrari giving this to other teams like Haas or Alfa Romeo, and THEM giving up the tech to competitors. I would imagine that if this is new tech for 2022, they would keep it strictly for themselves. Their engine contracts with other teams probably allows them ONLY the 2021 engine as is today should they need a 4th
"IP" is just for saying tho, once Ferrari gets the certification for its new components, teams like mercedes definitely will get to know "what/where exactly" they've upgraded. That's one big give away, especially when the electrical systems are not being homologated until September next year.
They knew what ferrari were doing EVERY year. In 2018, 2019, they were straight on point with their "queries" about the ferrari PU.
That's one thing I really hate about toto
