I am happy for Alonso that he got a point in the race, but a bit gutted for Perez and Cadillac after the penalty dropped him out of 10th place. As for this ADOU issue, I think Toto and Mercedes have played a giant sandbag game, and have pulled one over the FIA. There is no way that Mercedes engine is behind anyone, and deserving of any tokens to upgrade it. They have detuned the engines for sure since the new compression ratio test was announced by the FIA. Now they can upgrade the engines even further to walk this championship. Ridiculous.

Honda is way behind the other teams ,which means they will get the maximum upgrades available. Hopefully this means that for 2027 Aston Martin can move forward and get into the points regularly, and then push for 2028 to get in the mix with the top 4 teams. I think Alonso probably bails at the end of this season, and Aston Martin replaces him with either Jak Crawford or Yuki Tsunoda.

in a completely unrelated story, my 3 month old honda hornet sp motorcycle is being recalled to replace the motor that burns 2 liters of oil every 500 miles under regular usage. theres irony in there somewhere

I know you're joking, but on a serious note I would highly recommend buying a motorcycle. It's genuinely hard to be unhappy when you ride one regularly.

People with a sense of happiness and/or fulfillment in their personal lives usually don't spend their time bad-mouthing or making fun of Formula 1 engineers.

Also it was pointed out to me that I shouldn't have specifically called you out with my 'egg on your face' statement. I apologize for that, it was meant in a more general way in reference to many different people, not you specifically, but that's not how it came across.

Aston and Honda's engineers are all working very hard to improve, and as an Alonso and Honda fan (I'm sure we have at least the Alonso bit in common) here's hoping we continue to see improvement as the season progresses.

I think some of the issues they're talking about as gearbox problems are actually Honda drivability issues. The accident Stroll had yesterday, where he kept getting drive while on the brakes—a problem Alonso has also talked about—is likely a software glitch.

When the MGU-K is used for rear braking, it has to keep reducing the car's speed at a constant rate, as demanded by the brake pedal. Downshifting causes the amount of braking torque to increase, so the MGU-K has to compensate for that while remaining completely transparent to the driver. It also has to behave differently when the battery is full, since it can no longer recover energy in the same way.

That's a good point, we've heard several drivers complaining of the PU 'pushing' when under braking, even previous seasons but especially this year. I think it was during pre-season that I read some very insightful posts on these forums (probably a PU specific one) about why it's difficult to balance that for the rear braking, and why they run the systems the way they do, rather than simply turning 'extra' regen into heat once the ES is full, etc.

I wish I could quickly find those specific posts as they were a good read. Maybe one of those posters will see this and remember what they posted.

Many things have changed since last year...I'm sure the amount of regen the MGU-K can create, gearbox/differential ratios, weight of the car, wheelbase, tire width, all make a difference.

Tagging onto the ADUO announcement, while RBPT deserves a ton of praise for the work they did (it always sounded great to me from round 1, but the 2015 Honda also sounded good) I also think Audi did a great job being so close to Ferrari. If you factor in how tall Audi's gearing is (similar to Aston's I believe) when looking at their onboards, I wouldn't be surprised if they were neck and neck in power.

im not joking haha. i bought a 25 honda cb1000sp hornet. it uses the motor from the 2017 fireblade that was known to burn some oil. but right now theres a recall on it. still waiting to hear what honda wants us to do about our bikes. until they tell me im riding the wheels off it haha. im totally behind honda. i hope eventually theyre gonna get on top of things along with aston, and theyll be a force. hopefully thatll be before alonso retires.

If there is a legal shorter route between to points than the route you decide for a measurement then you have a very big problem. If this was on the public road and someone proved it convictions would be thrown out.

Why didn't Gasly get a penalty for speeding in the pitlane over the previous 8 years he's raced at Monaco? The rule didn't change, the way they measure it didn't change...His approach this year did change though. Between FPs, Qualifying and the race, he must use the pitlane limiter 20 times a year @ Monaco.....If a guy has done something 20 times a year for 8 years and never gotten it wrong now gets it wrong only during the race twice ...something he's doing changed.

You can say what you want about how it's measured but he knew the rule going in and has known it for now 9 years! He better learn it cause it will be the same next year.

Well if they measure the speed of a car by FIA transponders and electronic timing loops, rather than through a camera or speed guns that you would ordinarily find on public roads, they would still be found guilty. It's like saying If I was driving a 63 corvette in Spain going 100MPH in a 100KPH zone and got pulled over by Police, I could argue that my speedometer says 100, so I'm good. Your speedometer reading in both cases don't count.
