That’ll be a Mercedes front row lock out then! I’m going with an all Haas second row under those rules.

What do you use to make these calculations? I see them posted regularly but no idea how much credence I should give them.
Predictions based on sim racing on the F1 2021 game.
That’s how the team engineers conduct their simulations, too, amirite?
The team engineers use Mario Kart 64

That would explain some of the tyre decisions this season.

Won't the issue be tyre temps? I've a vague memory of the smooth track and long straights causing tyres to struggle to get hot. Combined with rain, it could throw up some pretty odd results this weekend.

Hmmmm, you might be on to something here. I did think I also saw a banana skin just past the Mercedes pit box exit at the Styrian GP....

If Verstappen takes an engine change, I think Hamilton should do the same, even if it's strategic to run the engines harder the rest of the season.

Imagine a new engine for Lewis in Abu-Dhabi where he has to come 5th or better to win the championship with Max having to win?! That would be epic!!

I don't see any sense in that. This is a chance to put at least 15 points on him assuming he starts at the back. This season I think it's important to have the points on the board with question marks over how many races are remaining.

IF Verstappen only qualifies third or lower and doesn't take an engine (although I think he would in those circumstances) so he's starting fifth or sixth, THEN you'd have to consider it as a way of taking the engine with the prospect of losing less points.

Does anyone know yet if the grid penalty for Max is cancelled out by an engine change, or can it carry over to Turkey ? No one seems to know

The 3 places grid penalty is for Sochi. Why would it be carry over to Turkey?

If the car shows defects on the way to the grid, which prevent hem from starting lets say 5th place,
that grid penalty will simply expire, and it will not be moved to Turkey.

If they take an engine penalty in Russia, it will be added to their grid penalty. So if Max takes pole on Saturday and then an engine change for Sunday, he'll start 14th (P1 + 3 + 10). If they take a whole PU, he'll start 20th.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.
