This Ricciardo chat keeps on rumbling. I'm scratch hing my head wo during what point anyone is trying to make? He had a bad start and then he had a better second half season.

Is he a bad driver, bad choice? No.
Did he didsapoint some folks? Yes.
Can that opinion be justified? Yes.

Does it mean he's a bad driver or that he will struggle next year? No.

If by and large everyone agrees with that, then I don't know what the point is of dissecting certain performances.

I'm not suggesting anyone can't or shouldn't, I just don't understand what the actual point is.
I don't understand why some people on the Internet are often so argumentative these days.

I think it's clear to most people that Daniel has improved over the year, but is still struggling with a car that has only had limited resources directed towards adapting it to his style. He knows he is better than he has been able to show this year and the team knows it.

As for the Daniel vs Lando arguments, does it matter? They're both top class F1 drivers are we should be grateful that we have such a strong pairing, regardless of who is better than the other.

Lest we forget where McLaren were only a few short years ago, despite having Alonso in the car.

Let's just celebrate the positives without getting bogged down in who is faster than who.

Most of the conversation was good. Don't forget it's a non race weekend, nothing else to talk about.

Why haven't there been any wind tunnel updates. They have been saying 2 years to complete from may last year. That's 18 months ago. This has to be the slowest wind tunnel ever made.

Maybe the pandemic effected the timeframe, I remember at the beginning of the pandemic they had financial issues that put some projects on hold.

This article says that it should be ready sometime in 2022, but maybe things have changed since the article was written.

The Pandemic will definitely have delayed things. Aside from them not being able to do any work on it at the height of Lockwood, social distancing rules etc have made construction projects a little more involved. Add onto that possible supply chain delays etc and it is easy to see why the timetable may have slipped.
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Projects were all put on hold until the groups finances were sorted out.

Ultimately the 18 month old project is 1 year behind.

They're talking about a ban of wind tunnels for 2030. If the WT gets delayed any further....I wonder at what point the McLaren wind tunnel becomes a waste of $$$????

https://www.speedcafe.com/2021/09/29/mc ... nd-tunnel/

"“There’s data we simply cannot get at the moment with the facility we’re in.
“It’s a great facility, Toyota, it’s served us incredibly well but we know that facilities built much more recently have been built with the benefit of the technologies available at the time.
“We’re compensating as best we can but we’re definitely missing some more refined data and knowledge and information that we would get otherwise." <-------------- seems like a big handicap Mclaren currently have.

If ready by next year they should get 8 plus years out of it. And there is no 100% guarantee wind tunnels will be banned in 2030. Maybe they will but, time will tell for sure.

You can also use the wind tunnel for the road car division and rent it out as well which many do. (Mercedes rent out to aston martin, Cologne rents to Mclaren and who knows how many more customers they have from road car companies even?)

The question is can you win the championship in the next 8 years or so without the latest high tech wind tunnel?
According to what Seidl keeps saying most likely no. The outdated wind tunnel tech in Cologne is not just missing refined data it is also a big handicap and slows down the team having to fly to Cologne to test parts. It slows down the process of bringing updates and upgrades to the car as quickly as possible like Merc and Redbull seem to be able to do currently with on site wind tunnels as opposed to off site( in another country wind tunnel)
