Somewhere above a man is toasting this with a hearty "kanpai!" and shaking his head about the kids doing it with water-cooled engines, of all things!

Been 30 years since the last one. Good show, Honda.

There's a strange vibe around Honda this year. They don't look like an organization that is going to throw in the towel at the end of the year. Imagine if they take the championship with Red Bull, maybe a podium or two for Tsunoda in the bargain, and then leave. In their moment of triumph? That's very un-japanese.

It's as if there is a faction within the company that has an appetite for F1, and they're going for it.
I raised a similar pondering question.

So the engine regs freeze end of the year = Near zero development costs.
Honda is still seemingly pouring lots of money and resources right until midnight end of the year.
Honda has agreed to give substantial people over as part of the Engine deal.

So why not stay in F1 now? Little to no development costs, you don't loose so many talented engineers to Redbull, and you get HONDA on the rear wing. You enjoy your Glory.

I would have thought it's no more cheaper to pull out then to stay on. The only costs being the engine build and some staff.
And here we are!

All the fans were going crazy, those reactions from India and Africa were amazing. I wish I could've experienced that sports bar in India - that place went nuts 😆

There's also a small clip of Honda's headquarters celebrating on YouTube.

My only question after all theses nice pictures and the amazing progress they've made is - as I read many contradicting things - why Honda is leaving F1 ?

It's good for your image to power a team winning championship usually ?

They decided to leave in early/mid 2020... till then Honda F1 was only know for the "GP2 engine".
Back then, from their point of view, they invested a huge amount of money in F1 as advertisement for their hybrid cars and it backfired badly, F1 showed to 1M ppl that Honda turbo-hybrid engines were slow and unreliable, not exactly the message U want to send to potential customers.
Obviously nowdays they would decide differently, but now there are no "F1 funds" scheduled for 2022 in their business plans anymore, probably the money are already invested elsewhere.

Not good if it's Carbon polluting and you have a 100% Green corporate mission statement.

They have already publicly committed to this statement, so the high up management probably feel they have to make a move some time so just as well carry through what they planned.
Although I really wish they would extend it even just a year or two
