Mercedes W13

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Not sure about this source, seems a little far fetched.
If I understand that correctly - using Google Translate  - they think the W13 will turn up with no sidepods and all of the cooling done in a radical way.

Well, that'll be something interesting to discuss if it transpires. =D> 8)

Yes exaggerated at least! But it makes sense to me: either they go widebody and push the flow outside the rear wheels or they go supermodel like this for a big flow between them even if it's a bit messy.

Too far fetched IMHO. I'm pretty sure it won't even be a massive update, just some refinements here and there.

Yeah lol. It would literally be a silver arrow. Surely they still need to have sidepod inlets as per rules though?

I wonder how they got this info. Specifically around it being a monster in the simulator.

While we are stretching the bounds, what is the opposite of a lifting body? could the whole car be single unit?

Ah yes, the ‘no bellies’ rumour has found a new home. Moved over here from the Alpine rumour mill pre-car launch.

I think we can confidently say, it will have sidepods. Perhaps they’ll be tiny? Who knows.

Why doesn't any team use sidepods on the sides of the floor, having them completely separated from the tub, leaving the space between as a direct channel to the diffuser?

Weight distribution?

There’s no trick hah. It’s a play on the typical click bait/spam adverts you see on the interwebs.

Very interested to see any changes between the tests though! Back to lurking for me

Because of the legality boxes. They don’t reach far enough for that. You are restricted to having them in the traditional place. More or less. A pencil is allowed. If you can get the hot parts cooled sufficiently.

This. There are examples of F2000 cars with these though. They sit inline of the wheels.
