Mercedes W13

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Car looks like a maaaaassive handful. Lewis was trying to stay ahead of vettel just now and the car wouldn't turn in the slow corners and just drifted into the runoff.

Usual caveats of no idea of fuel loads and run programs etc.
Did this look like criminal understeer? I wonder If the setup has to be drastically changed?

Car does seem a real handful, struggling to turn in and put the power down coming out
Correlation or setup issues?

I mean, the sidepods look like they are well within the tyre profile of the car from this view

Given that porpoising starts at the beginning of the straight, does that mean that they generate a lot more downforce now at lower speeds. Haven't seen that in Barcelona.

We were having this conversation during the last test. Even if this development itself is not a step too far, the fact that there is little to limit its continued development is enough to warrant a strong view by the FIA. I expect to see a clarification here.

Cooling air intakes in the leading edge of the floor to compensate for the new side pods.

lol that is just upside down isn't it. I have a good feeling about it, all that flow almost Route 1 to the beam wing, clean air to the cooling from under the front wing.

Unlikely. The cars currently on track have all been vetted by the FIA one way or another.

Why are the aero rakes placed forward of the major changes? The front wing and nose assembly doesn’t look too different from Barcelona.

Are they wanting to see where the most volume or pressure of air is before it starts it’s journey along the revised side pod design?

Has anyone seen the W13 go through T10 without locking up yet?

I am thinking this car does not look pleasant to drive, even on a slightly softer compound. Hopefully it's setup related

My comments are about further bargeboard development, not about current state.

Car doesn't look settled in these stages, a little bit twitchy in the footage I have seen.

Edit: just watched the merc do a circuit and it looks twitchy all over the place.
