McLaren MCL36

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What’s the Z cut section starting at the end of the flap? Has that always been there? Is that even a cut?..

The rear floor looks different…

The previous enclosure was a very simple shape, that looks much more developed.

I hope they don't suffer in Melborne like they did in Bahrain with the brakes. Those brakes, from appearance, leave an impresiion that is the inverse of the impression I get from looking at the floor.

We can clearly see a cutout in the new floor near the "rent a jet" logo

I'm not 100% sure if it's a cutout or a wire running for some kind of sensor.

Re: McLaren MCL36

This is just speculation but I feel that by the time McLaren brings some significant update they'll probably ditch their unusual keel design. They're the only team doing it and, considering it affects the floor intake, it likely has a big impact in downforce.
Maybe it's a great solution that's better than everyone else's but considering their performance it's hard to believe that's the case.

They already have a revised front floor/strake section in production.

i'd put my money on a taped wire ... main image is from the same tweet as the other picture with the supposed cut out, insert is from a post a bit up
