the architecture of honda is surely different from that of renault. Redbull probably will know how much each delivers.

It seems like this is the RB16B chassis which is going into the Honda heritage collection, RB16B-01 in the special livery. The 'AlphaTauri' in the background is actually a STR13 however. It seems that previously Honda had the real STR13 but a faux RBR show car.

Also the MP4/5 makes an appearance in the 8-bit Guy's retrospective on the Commodore Amiga 1000 which is kind of cool! :) Complete with the iconic dashboard which was recreated in the Honda S2000.

in the ice run demo there was a honda logo on the nose and on the inside of the headrest it said "honda". Perhaps small references to Honda like this will remain?
Can Red Bull Powertrains still be classed by the FIA as a new power unit supplier for 2026 if the Red Bull XY##### power unit has competed for 2022-2025 in the back of Red Bulls and AlphaTauri (even if everyone knows unofficially that the Red Bull XY##### power unit is a rebadged Honda RA622H)?

The answer is yes. Which would grant them new PU manufacturers concessions in the new regulations.

Thanks @Hasika. RBPTH means Red Bull Power Train Honda engine? A lot of words! :)

Or 'Red Bull PowerTrains Hybrid'? Can't find a definitive answer.

"It is a completely new engine,"
"We still have a month to implement a final upgrade. The Honda people are therefore working as hard as they can, because once you end up behind that curtain of homologation... (you can hardly do anything anymore, ed.)."

Thank you for this report @f1isthebest.
Strange that no one from HRC says a few words. Last year, Tanabe-san always did that with the same report.
Tanabe-san is now also working with the Honda PUs at RB or is someone else in charge?

Thank you @Wouter for your good words!
Horner gave an interview at January about this.

"All the Honda staff, at the end of February, [will come] to our employment," Horner said.

"[Masashi] Yamamoto will become a consultant, [Toyoharu] Tanabe, I think, is going to remain with Honda on their side.

"But all the working personnel from HRD UK [Honda Racing Development] will transfer over to us, so the engines will continue to be serviced out of Honda's service until RBPT [Red Bull Powertrains] dynos and work are finalised around May or June [2022]."

Any chance of Honda swooping in to stop the Red Bull - Porsche deal, or is Honda Racing involvement in F1 ICE racing in the BEV age off the table? :?:

I guess 3 years is a long time in motor racing, but it is a little worrying that there isn't the slightest rumour of Honda coming back on as power unit naming rights sponsor be it for 2023-on, or 2024-on or whatever. Given the global viewership of Formula One it would, in theory, seem like quite cost-effective advertising?

The $50m USD per annum that ByBit pay would presumably be worth quite a bit more than that in actual exposure, be it
in value to ByBit or, instead, in value to Honda if Honda were to buy out ByBit's contract...

I guess if Honda were to sign as the naming sponsor & technical partner of the RBPT units from 2026-on, they would have reservations about not controlling the design of the units in-house, as that is not the Honda way. So that seems like an unlikely scenario for Honda, whereas Porsche would be less bothered about "badging" a RBPT unit?

When you consider what Honda could gain coming back balanced against what they could lose, I can understand them holding off.

Last time they came back they had a real slagging. They turned it around and won the championship (but not the engine series) so if they come back they are starting not only from baseline again, but baseline where someone else has made the decisions while they were away. I suspect if Honda do have any plans, it will be with the introduction of the new engine and completely disassociated with any engine currently in use.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

F1 now plans more race in USA. So Honda may consider to come back seriously. Soon or later. ( I think they will stick with the decision they had but would like to see Honda on the rear wing and back of driver )
