F1 isn't diverse?

20 drivers...You have Mexican , Chinese , Thai , English , Spanish , Australian , Canadian, Monaco, Danish, Dutch, Japanese, German.

Personally I feel its been a 'lonely road' for him is that he never bothers t mingle and have banter with the other drivers on the grid/pits/podiums etc. He just keeps to himself (and Angela). If you dont join in with the group activities/socialism, then you get left out and there's nobody to blame for that but yourself IMHO. It also shouldn't be forgotten about how he got there...funded by Ron Dennis on his 'lonely journey' in F1.

He seems to be decent mates with Ricciardo and Leclerc. What you see on the television doesn't tell the whole story. I think you've sort of misunderstood the meaning here.

Of course we never get a full story, but from the bits you do see, such as driver parades, press conferences, podiums etc. (even down to some drivers sim racing together or playing golf together) is that he always seems to distance himself from others.

To be fair, there's been plenty of funny press comment moments with him, Seb, Lando, Ricciardo, etc. I think yes, he's been a little less "interactive" over the last few years but I think it's more to do with the fact that he is sort of in no-man's land in terms of age and experience. Fernando surely isn't going to strike up a conversation with him, and the only driver within three years of experience is Seb, and they seem to have an amicable relationship. He seems to be more involved with George, but generally I think it's more of a generational gap than anything.

**mod edit - removing inappropriate** Your first paragraph is racist af. According to you it's absolutely fine for 7 out of the 12 counties you mentioned to be for the most part white and call that already diverse enough. **removed further***

Before this gets out of hand, I'm fairly certain he might also be talking about the sport in general, not just drivers.

Are you intentionally being ****? Your first paragraph is racist af. According to you it's absolutely fine for 7 out of the 12 counties you mentioned to be for the most part white and call that already diverse enough. Pathetic closed mindedness.
Wow, nothing like blowing it all out of proportion. Where is the racist stuff? First I’ve ever heard of speaking of a drivers nationality across the sport as being racist.

So even by your statement the ‘remainder’ of 5/12 which is 40% as being non or part white isn’t diverse?

What do you recommend? We have a 50/50 split between white, part white and coloured drivers on the grid?

Play another card.

F1 main rule isn't being diverse, it's being the best of all. In recent years we've had a driver from Indonesia, two from India, one from Venezuela, at least two from Brasil. Wehrlein was German-Mauritian. They weren't dropped because F1 is racist, they were too slow to be competetive

Totally civil from me, just needed to address his comments in a civil way.

Removed references as you asked. Personally feel was a bit of an attack the language he used.

100%. F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport. The best of the best. Crème de la crème.

If there was a line of people with ranging levels of experience/qualifications. You generally start with the best Candidate for the job.

Slightly off topic to the team thread however

You're right there are lots of nationalities on the grid although most are pretty "western", but in terms of ethnicity, Hamilton is the first and only black driver in F1. I'm not gonna pretend I have any idea what that is like being a white man but I have heard people reference their struggles of being "the only" and it sounds like its probably quite an isolating experience.

I guess. It’s good he’s raising awareness to other black drivers/staff of colour with his campaigns.

However, it does not automatically mean there should be ‘more’ people in the sport.

If someone is qualified/experience lad enough then they can make the cut.

Nothing is stopping anyone from doing any role if they put their mind/heart/soul into it.

I agree. There are a large number of colored, well to do, rich people around the world now. Most countries have moved past toxic racism (while there is still hell of a lot) and allows colored people to get equal opportunity if pursued. If you look at the karting circles and other junior categories, you don't find a great deal of diverse talent, not because there is racism but probably there is lack of talent and will. It applies to race engineering aspects too. It's improving, but it's not being held back due to racist reasons. Same applies to female talent too.

If you look at other sports, you would see a surge in diversity as it's probably more affordable than motor racing. May be colored rich people are not really into motor racing much which is fair. Poor parents, be it colored or not, find it impossible to take their ward to racing in today's times. That aside, for the sake of boosting diversity, the opportunities shouldn't be given. Talented people will find a way to get there, like Hamilton himself.
