Aston Martin AMR22

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Nice to see that Aston Martin is back to their 2020 ways of simply copying what is fastest and not even attempting to stick with their own design , so far they’re the only Team to really admit they completely screwed the new regs
Before AMR22 hit the road, team admitted working on B-Spec.
There has to be something wrong or extremely challenging with the original concept.

On face value yes that appears to be their direction, but nowadays the radiators and internals don’t necessarily fill the entirety of the sidepods, so there is still a chance that they will be different to others on the grid…

Looks like a floppy floor was the compromise of the pontoon style pods. A compromise like that is too big to make with a ground effect floor.

RB sidepods! And also the same layout of cooling louvres as the RB18. Also a similar looking edge to the floor! :D

I didn't expect it to be a literal copy. I thought it would just be of a similar philosophy. It even has the changes RB made to it in Bahrain

Wow. Will be extremely interesting to see how it works on track!

If it has mad porpoising it willay end the floor vs suspension porpoising cause debate once and for all.

Yes that is a great point. Well once again I have to thank tracing point because even though I look down on it, it's providing thoroughly interesting technical talking points :D

Should be a nice point of comparison for over-body aero's effect on bouncing as well as seeing how 'low drag' the RB concept really is (given AM can run the car lower than before :D )
quick edit; didn't realize they managed to copy the floor too :wtf:

They are definitely good at copying another team… They went for every detail they could:

Using 2 of the 4 tunnel entrance strakes to manage the front tyre wake too! Basically just a cut and paste job
