Could this part flex down and act like a skirt sealing a section of the floor? We’ve been thinking for a while that floors flexing were a bad thing but could Merc be gaining a benefit from it here?

If it wasn’t going to flex downwards and make contact with the surface of track then why make so much of the edge out of a metallic material and not go full carbon? Unless it’s because they don’t want it to flex?
it flexes upwards when it hit the track, hence preventing porpoising
Downwards surely? The fixings are no different to how the front wing elements are mounted. You’d fix from the underside if you wanted it to bend up
from the looks of it in this picture its being fixed by the hinges from underneath

The W13 at high speed, DRS, down the straight. Floor looking flush to the ground. No porpoising was reported by either driver on the straights today.

Fair enough, the overhead made it look otherwise

Purpoising was occurring on the high speed corners, lots of bottoming can be heard on the onboard video. This will give them high tyre wear on turns 3 and 9.

It's nice to be complaining about this as it means we are thinking of the smaller details that put us just out of touch of a potential win.

We are close for real this time.

Reminds me of the mp4/4, that shot.

Or maybe, it's just me

At 9 seconds in the video, slow playback down to 0.25x and you can clearly see the heavy purpoising at turn 3

Doesn't look like porpoising but rather like a car driving over bumps in the track surface.

I wish that was true, but if you look at the rear diffuser area and ground clearance, the rhythmic bouncing is there

The bouncing is barely visible, even if you slow it down by 4x. porpoising has generally been very visible on the track cams, at regular speed.

The fact that you need to slow it down and it still is barely noticable makes it clear enough that it's not porpoising.

Looks like there may possibly be stays bonded in the floor. You can see in the the third image the third carbon fiber slit is angled and in the fourth image a mechanic placed a helmet on top of it

Facts are that it’s the first time the W13 has been able to be so close to the ground & that that both drivers are happy.

Very promising and mostly due to the uprgrades brought in Barcelona!

Very promising stuff!

No, that's just where they mounted the sensors on the floor - go back to the launch spec car and look in that area.
