At this point I think we will be seeing one of two announcements over the summer break;
1) Daniel will be being replaced with immediate effect by <insert driver>
2) Daniel will be retiring/his contract will not be renewed from f1 at the end of this Season

Up until his qualifying in Monaco , I thought McLaren might keep him around as a designated second driver , but a second driver needs to be 1-3 tenths back( preferably closer in the midfield) to be effective and Danny isn’t anywhere close to that

his contract is until end 2023 though. I believe he will survive this season, but i think they will be looking for a replacement in earnest for next year now

That has not been fully confirmed. From what has been said between Zak and Ricciardo this weekend, it looks like the contract might not be fully until 2023.

Let’s just say , no f1 team would ever Sign a driver contract with zero performance or opt-out clauses. I believe McLaren decided to not activate those last year even though they could have , in hope that Dan would be better this year . Im positive they won’t be making that mistake this year

OFC there are performance clauses in the contract.

The probability is that if Dan is not being replaced, they will not announce it until they have already contracted another driver. They would not like to be seen as in need when negotiating with a new driver.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

The burden doesn't squarely sit on Daniel's shoulders either, the team need to do better to make him comfortable and confident in the car too. He'll come good in my view, but let's just give credit to Lando where it's due. He's jumped another level this year, top tier driver now.

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again, I think at the level Lando is driving… I think it will be difficult to find a driver that will be close….

I think he will be safe to the end of the season. There wont be a mid season change as there is nobody who they could bring in to replace him with the experience of F1. its not going his way this season so far though

Since last year I consider Norris one of the best drivers on the current grid. I even think he was the best driver of the 2021 season, ahead of Max and Hamilton.

It wasn't a perfect lap, that's for sure, but given the circumstances, it's not like it would have made a whole lot of a difference in the finishing position even if it was.

Either way, it's hard not to be happy with Lando's performance. Been practically carrying the team for the last year and a bit.

Danny ricc is clearly washed up and overrated, living off past glories. He would have been booted out in a top team, not worth the salary. Piastri should be able to do what he is doing with fraction of cost. Albon would be a good choice as he gets on with Lando, Gasly is a bit of a diva and will not gel well with the British outfit.

Ricciardo down over a second in quali, it’s so bad. I like him but the gap on many occasions has just been crazy. Hope he can pick it up to save his seat for next year

If we didn't have Lando on the car we would probably be bashing the team hard right now, having Daniel as the best reference in P14, not knowing that the car was capable of going over a second faster than that.

Just goes to show that even though F1 is very much a team/car sport, the driver really makes the difference in the end.
