Welcome to modern sports. Where fans are tribal because social media makes it easy to happen, and as sports bases grow, more and more idiots start to follow it, causing more problems.
The other contributing factor, is that some members of the paddock do a really good job of making themselves unlikable. This is something you see in every sport, in some cases personalities seems to take pride in the fact that's they annoyed other players and fans.

John Rocker comes to mind from baseball. Even a lot of fans of the team he played for, couldn't stand him!

Why blame fans for something started by teams?

The online toxicity of fans and booing at race venues was present way before Netflix was on the scene, just go back a few years and you had Hamilton fans threatening to kill Rosberg, and mud slinging back and forth like it was 2022.

And going way back, I can still remember Irvine talking about how a fan offered to snipe Hakkinen's tyres so he could win the championship.

F1 fans are insane 😆
I’ve never ever come across a single Hamilton fan threatening to kill Rosberg. Would you like to offer evidence to that.

Human nature is the reason for human nature. Was there Netflix or social media when slavery existed?

There is no such thing as bad publicity (P.T. Barnum ), or Oscar Wilde said There's only one thing worst than being talked about, is not being talked about.

Publicity is Publicity

Ocon got them, when he collided with Perez in Baku.

It's not just DTS, it's social media territorialism expanding.
In Mexico specifically might be a bit of football culture, were it's ok to boo and yell nasty stuff at the players.

Idiots are being given a platform and people are giving them far too much weight

The hater does not need to be given the time of day, that idiot is not an example of a normal fan

Exactly.

Instead, these idiots are being used as pawns by fanbases/media to further their own agenda.

Before social media, those with out there views that did not match the majority were shunned by the masses. They were exiled.

Now they are been given the front row seat, the driving seat if you will at the show.

The anonymity in the social media also makes it easier to taunt and agitate against people. Click-bait headlines do the rest and exacerbates the problem. I also dare say that these "extremists" would not dare to do this face to face.

Sadly Austria this year suggests otherwise!

Isnt it ironic that people ITT are already slinging passive aggressive digs at each other while pretending to have a moral high ground? It's like they don't even recognize their own retroric. Absolutely amazing.

It is funny but at the same time sad to see that some people who are actually portraying that bad behaviour even use this thread to polarise and make it a partisan story.
