Aston Martin AMR23

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I don't know if have been posted or not, but this could be one of the reasons Aston are in better shape this year

But what does exactly Mercedes rear suspension mean? Aston Martin use their own design inboard parts and setup, as per regulations they have to produce their own aerodynamic surfaces for all arms. So is it basically a geometry, layout (that is designed by Mercedes) and metal parts (wishbones and rods) that are hidden under those aerodynamic surfaces made of carbon?

Maybe merc designed that suspension for expected/aimed car balance and aimed df level which they have yet able to achieved. So it doesn't work as desired. But it works with Aston because it has friends it needed to do it's job as desired.
I am excited performance of Alonso.

Yeah meant 2022.

So.. this is what I was saying in the Merc thread.. we can't just look at the side pod and say it keeps all the air near the ground out because they don't.

We see a nice big passage between the coke bottle and the rear wheel when viewed from above. Getting good flow in that area from the sides were always a thing. Just gotta keep the front wheel wake out, and not all the air beside the car is "dirty front wheel wake"

Do you think that floor is the key reason why AMR23 & RB19 are able to run their car so low compared to others without any porpoising? I previously thought about suspension but since AMR23 gets it from Mercedes I think it can be ruled out.

Newey was asked that last year in interview. He basically said you have to design the floor so that the DF is stable and not peak.

I see. That makes more sense. Dan Fallows is the difference here then.

The designers at AM really do love to play around with fillet rules. First ones to design the T tray wing and now this. =D>
