Sprint format (2023)

Post

As always I say give it a chance, but my biggest problem with this format stays. I don`t like that the cars are so long in park ferme. My suggest would be at least let them change the car after the sprint.

I agree, sprint races should be standalone events

Friday:
Practice
Sprint Quali (parc ferme)

Saturday:
Sprint race (end parc ferme)
Qualifying (parc ferme)

Sunday:
Race

I don’t understand drivers point of view…

First they said they want less practice and more racing… then they say we can’t race hard because we don’t wanna have an accident and be at the back of the grid for the main race

Now they get more racing, Accidents don’t affect their position for Sunday… But they’re still not happy

Someone please explain this to me

Accidents will have a huge £££ on the cost cap, not to mention if its a big one the car might struggle to be repaired.

Just scrap usual FP2 and FP3 sessions. One practice on friday, half an hour "warm-up" before quali and then the race on sunday. That's it, don't need more.

In the old format, yes...you could even condense the weekend with a short FP on Friday evening, Q Sat in the afternoon. There are anyways no spectators on Friday at the track.

I do not get this argument at all.
If we have the "normal" format with a Q on Saturday, this is exactly the risk of a Q.
Furthermore...I would expect that a F1 driver can push hard without causing too much scratches on the paint. If not...he starts from the back or not at all on a Sunday. I actually can not see how fans can have an issue with that.

It is expensive is not an argument because an accident could also happen on a grand prix and no one say cancel the grand prixs.
The short time for repairs I agree.

that's not the point. The point is if you have a crash in both the sprint and the grand prix, you have twice the cost. You can't crash in a sprint race that never happened.

Nevertheless, it's the same rules for everyone.

Yes, but you also can`t score points in a sprint race that never happen.
I think what you mean is that there are more races with the same cost cap. You can see it also as a lower cost cap, which could be a problem for teams, not so much for me as a fan.

The maximum number of points that can be scored in a sprint is 8 points. The value proposition is less from a points/budget cap perspective. It's not just "more races in the same budget cap". The sprint races don't have the same pts value, yet they still contain the most dangerous part of a race: The standing start!. You're being asked to do standing starts for a lot less value pts wise.

This is terrible, where is the insensitive for drivers to take a risk? If I was outside the top 8 I'd park it in to the garage.

Can't do that. You have sponsors who paid to be on your car during the race.

But you can, and you should. The whole idea of this sprint race is terrible. At least in the old format it was worth the risk as your finishing position determined your grid position for the main race.

It doesn't work like this  .

As far as I know, the concorde agreement compels you to participate, nevermind the sponsor agreements.

Of course, but then you park it because of a "problem."
