More likely the story is someone trying to pressure Ferrari or its drivers to up their game.
If you want to scare your two drivers in to performing better, using the top name in the sport might be one way of doing it. "Do better or we'll bring in this guy that has won more than anyone else and you can go and drive taxis in Monaco".
