Mercedes W14

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

They probably need to keep it on to do proper aero/drag comparison with previous concept.

They used that wing almost all year last year so I suppose its a good constant to keep so they can focus on how the upgrades have changed things, including the efficiency of their current go-to rear wing.

I suppose you're right I guess.

How does that rear wing make sense given the flow distribution has changed so much? Didn’t the CFD show it’s now more midspan-laden?
Team ANTI-HYPE. Prove it, then I’ll anoint you.

What CFD are you referring to?

Currently Red Bull and Aston are also showing maximum drag wings, Ferrari has one car at max drag one on slightly less.

I wouldn’t read into it until Qualifying. Teams are bringing in upgrade packages left and right, and with Monaco being Monaco, there is going to be a lot of testing / correlation work on Friday.

They ran that cover in FP2 in Monaco on at least Hamilton's car. Didn't use it in the race however IIRC.

Is this an overall aero upgrade or just to address local climate conditions?

A bit of both probably, although there are decent changes at the cannon exits which will change the behaviour of the airflow towards the rear.

I agree. Teams sometimes have team members on private jets / aeroplanes bringing update parts on overnight flights ready for qualy/saturday morning, as the factory is making the items late into friday night due to the early turnaround from race last week and data collection and production this week. i wonder if this saves on budget cap if you can justify "our millionaire sponsor/team owner etc was coming to the race and conveniently has a plane and our team member jumped on the flight with a few bits lol"

In FPs it seem they ran different rear wings in Monaco
