2010 engine partnerships

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

2010 engine partnerships

Post

The FIA entry list shows TBA for Brawn, RBR and STR.

CONSTRUCTOR

FERRARI
McLAREN MERCEDES
BMW SAUBER
RENAULT
TOYOTA
STR TBA
RBR TBA
WILLIAMS TOYOTA
FORCE INDIA MERCEDES
BRAWN TBA
CAMPOS COSWORTH
MANOR COSWORTH
TEAM US F1 COSWORTH

Mercedes has two customer teams and Toyota has one. How about Ferrari to RBR and STR. Renault could supply Brawn. What do you guys think about that. There used to be the rule, that one engine supplier can only supply 2 teams
except in an emergency (as seen last year by Brawn). Will they go back to the rule?

Rumor has it that BMW are to supply a team next year. Id think that Red Bull will stay with Renault, and STR to stay with Ferrari, but i can see Brawn going to a BMW P96 powerplant as the way i understand it, Mercedes are classed to supply 2 customer teams as the Mercedes name is after the Mclaren name, hence why BMW Sauber are classed as the works team.

But i think Mercedes have comited to a Brawn customer engine next year, as Ross said at Silverstone that they have a promice of a Mercedes engine for €5million next year, and i wouldnt be surprised if the star logo makes its way to the Brawn car next year. That contract has still to be signed looking at the entry list.

However, Red Bull are looking at the Mercedes way for next year as Newey wants it for its cooling capabilities, whitch are a class of their own for his designs.

Im waiting with antisipation of the engine announcements.

So according to you, Mclaren are nulled from the customer classification as they have Merc as a shareholder/manufacturer. Leaving FIF1 and Brawn as the customers. (So what was the big fuss at the beginning of the year about Brawn being "allowed" to run with Merc?) Red Bull are in the wings(no pun intended) hoping for a 3rd spot. I don't see how RB will get the Merc power unless BGP or FIF1 jump ship. Surely they will secure their deals given the power and reliability of the Merc engine these past few yrs. BMW had a great reliability record until this year.

But why would BGP switch from Merc after this so far amazing season, and to Renault of all engines who might be renamed Mecachrome before the end of the season with Renault on the french gov't dole.

A good question would be what will the cossie's badged as?

Perhaps FOTA will ask Mercedes to have the rules applied that used to cover such business. I understand that Merc have a long term contract with FiF1 and have a 40% equity share in McLaren.

Brawn was a charity agreed for one year. I agree it needn't be Renault. But the other engine makers may not let Merc get away with Brawn as an excuse for McLaren's failure to score.

The guys with Cosworth will have no rev limit! That is great especially in the long straight behind the wake of another car.

A rev-limited engine tends to end up bouncing off the rev. Very annoying! I'm sure you guys experience the same thing on a manual when you forgot to change gear and you'll feel the acceleration suddenly is gone!

Lets hope it does not blow up like the way the Williams 2006 did.

good drivers dont forget to change gears

and good engineers choose the correct gear ratios in order to not bounce off the rev limiter... not a difficult thing really

and your link is all speculation, nothing concrete behind it.

The British GP race onboard have shown that Mclarens, Ferraris, Renaults, even Brawns have their engines bouncing off Rev limit. Geez, They must have very bad engineers, with very bad gear ratios and just couldn't figure it out.

hey winds can always change, headwin to tail win... isnt there a rule that limits the number of gear ratio changes over a weekend?

anyway, as I said before, having no rev limit can have an advantage although it may be small or it can even be a disadvantage if not used properly. Nevertheless I thought it is worth mentioning.

Lets just see what happens in 2010.

Just as a wild prediction, I think Force India will be forced to re-consider their engine supply deal long before Brawn do, not to say they should, but I think some way will be found to facilitate it should Brawn wish to continue using Merc's.

Merc seems to be interested to get into Red Bull racing as an engine supplier.
