I don't think they are allowing any new engine manufacturers since they missed the bid last yr. Cosworth took that title.

Indeed, it's either a Cosworth, or one of the present manufacturers. And technically, it's 1 extra team per manufacturer (with the occasional 2nd extra exemption such as Brawn this season).
That comes down to: 5 manufacturers + 5 customers + 3 Cosworth teams. (exceptions to the customer-rules not counted)

The bid was for the standard, anyone can use engines.

A new team should still be able to manufacture/source their own with no limitations, except for the max. number of other teams a team can supply, as in the case of McLaren, Ferrari, and Renault.

Or am I wrong on this?

Pretty cool, right?

I really hope they post the USF1's on board vids on Youtube for people to see. That should increase the exposure of F1 to a larger audience.

Though, I really doubt You Tube or Coca Cola or Pepsi would really sponsor a F1 team.......they have enough recognition already and exposure, and espeically in this economic situation, they shouldn't need to keep spending money on advertising when they already got enough.

Agree. There just isn't anything in it for those companies. F1 is international, so is Coke, Pepsi, and YouTube, already. If you're trying to reach new markets, sure...F1 is a worthwhile venue, but those three companies already have the international markets nailed down.

Something happening..
One of the three new teams granted entry into the 2010 Formula One championship says they plan to have their car ready by the end of October.

Team boss Ken Anderson tells Autosport that the design of the new car is in the advance stages and he hopes to ramp up production in the next month.

"The chassis is locked down, because we were waiting to hear if the (Cosworth) engine rev limit was 20,000rpm or 18,000rpm," said Anderson.

"The chaps will now start building the chassis in August. We will have it rolling on the ground in late September, without bodywork or stuff, and then the bodywork will get added in October."

Anderson says the current staff of 20 is about to double over the course of the next month at the team's Charlotte, North Carolina factory.

"It wasn't prudent to order $5 million of machines until we were (approved)," he said. "The thing is we need people to run machines, and there was no point having them until the machines are there."

Anderson, who co-owns the U.S.-based F1 team with Peter Windsor, says they are close to finalizing a deal to use the Aragon circuit in Spain as its European test facility.

"It is not signed or sealed though. We are evaluating there and Paul Ricard."

No word on when the team plans to hire a driver. YouTube co-founder and CEO Chad Hurley is rumored to be one of the team's primary investors.

Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

For what it's worth, Dave Despain said on Windtunnel on Sunday that Danica Patrick said she has no interest in coming over to F1 as she'd rather go to NASCAR.

Thank God, I already have to suffer her over exposure, I couldnt imagine how much attention she would get if she was given an F1 seat.

Admit it, you would loooove it if she'd expose herself to you!

Seriously, though, I don't think she'd get as much exposure in the F1 world as F1 would get through her, in the US. In Formula 1, her deficiencies would become very apparent, very quickly, and no amount of physical "talent" will make up for lack of driving "talent".

According to Dave Despain she categorically rejected it. He says she'd like to go to NASCAR, Robin Miller said she'd probably take a seat at Ganassi (Indy) if she could get it, otherwise move to NASCAR.

Probably good for the sport. I didn't mind her when she was up and coming (no pun) but now that she's all over those GoDaddy commercials and gets so much attention even when she doesn't win I'm through with her.

I for one still want to know where the 50+ MUSD for the 2010 season is coming from, anyone?
