Your ultimate calender

Post

With the FOTA's latest ambition to "race at the best tracks" it begs the question - which tracks do people actually want to see?

In this thread please make your own ultimate calender. If possible keep the races in order with the current one (both date and country) but you can have any circuit you wish. Of course if a country only has one track (i.e. Bahrain) feel free to drop it.

Current 2009 calender:

Code: Select all

1.	29 Mar 2009 GP Australia	Albert Park
2.	5 Apr 2009 GP Malaysia	Sepang International Circuit
3.	19 Apr 2009 GP China	Shanghai International Ciruit
4.	26 Apr 2009 GP Bahrain	Bahrain International Circuit
5.	10 May 2009 GP Spain	Circuit de Catalunya
6.	24 May 2009 GP Monaco	Monte Carlo Circuit
7.	7 Jun 2009 GP Turkey	Istanbul Park
8.	21 Jun 2009 GP Great-Britain	Silverstone Circuit
9.	12 Jul 2009 GP Germany	Nürburgring
10.	26 Jul 2009 GP Hungary	Hungaroring
11.	23 Aug 2009 GP Europe	Valencia Street Circuit
12.	30 Aug 2009 GP Belgium	Circuit De Spa-Francorchamps
13.	13 Sep 2009 GP Italy	Autodromo Nazionale di Monza
14.	27 Sep 2009 GP Singapore	Marina Bay Street Circuit
15.	4 Oct 2009 GP Japan	Circuit Suzuka
16.	18 Oct 2009 GP Brazil	Autódromo José Carlos Pace, Interlagos
17.	1 Nov 2009 GP Abu Dhabi	Yas Marina Circuit
I would like to have a think about my ultimate so please...let me hear yours.

In no order...

Spa
Monza
Hockenhiem (new, yes I quite like it)
A1-Ring
Algarve
Interlargos
Bahrain
Brands Hatch
Sepang
Monte Carlo
Road America
Sebring (bumpy as hell but id like to see these cars tackle it!)
Daytona Oval
Le mans

And finally, this has to be the seasons climax

Suzuka
Suzuka
Suzuka

Maybe chuck in a few more ovals. I reckon it would be awesome to see an F1 race on an oval.

Re: Your ultimate calender

My perfect season:

Australia - Albert Park
Singapore - Marina bay night race
China - Shanghai
Japan - Suzuka
India?
Abu Dhabi - Yas Marina (if this year's race is good)
Spain - Valencia
France - Paul Ricard
Monaco - Monte Carlo
Turkey - Istanbul
Germany - Hockenheim
Belgium - Spa Francorchamps
Italy - Monza
Great Britain - Silverstone
Canada - Gilles Villenuve
USA - Laguna Seca
Brazil - Interlagos

I've also put them in a more logical order, so all the far eastern races together, then middle east, main land europe, GB then West, therefore saving some unneccessary airmiles/cost/fuel.

How about having back-to-back weekends at Spa, running the track normally the first weekend and in the opposite direction the next? Well, perhaps not Spa. I think a reverse Eau Rouge might be lethal. But another track. (It would definitely save on travel costs.)

Add any track running opposite to its usual direction, and you've got me hooked. Since we're dreaming and all.

At least the drivers necks would become symmetrical

EDIT: Would love to see them try Monaco backwards. Breaking in the tunnel could be a little hairy.

Re: Your ultimate calender

I'll bear in mind your "in order with the current one" on this one, however I would put them in a different order climate permitting. Also I've taken the liberty of adding some countries back in next to where they are nearest geographically (not where they were previously)

I'm going to be realistic and only count tracks that would be able to get a Grade 1 licence without being levelled by the RAF and rebuilt.

Code: Select all

01 Australian Grand Prix Melbourne
02 Spanish Grand Prix Valencia Street Circuit (but tidied up - it's the least worst one available)
03 Monaco Grand Prix Monte Carlo
04 British Grand Prix Silverstone
05 German Grand Prix Eurospeedway Lausitz (the choice isn't really that good)
06 European Grand Prix Donington Park (after it gets its 2010 rebuild)
07 Finnish Grand Prix Helsinki (Street circuit)
08 Portugese Grand Prix Algarve Autodrome
09 French Grand Prix Magny-Cours (nowhere else to hold the French GP, just tweak it a lot by removing some of the intestines sections and tightining some hairpins up)
10 Belgian Grand Prix Spa (where else?)
11 Italian Grand Prix Monza (no alternatives, but you don't want them)
12 Singapore Grand Prix Marina Bay (human rights record problems or not)
13 Japanese Grand Prix Suzuka (like Spa but in Japan)
14 Canadian Grand Prix Ile De Notre Dame (realistically would have to be in an earlier slot due to snow)
15 USA Grand Prix Indianapolis in MotoGP configuration, but with the T1 infield section removed.
16 California Grand Prix A car park circuit in LA that's similar to the Caeser's Palace one in Vegas (which IIRC has been built over)
17 Brazilian Grand Prix Interlagos
18 UAE Grand Prix Yas Marina (unless it's terrible)
If the scheduling rule wasn't there, the Asia-Pacific races would start the season, then UAE, then Spain. Canada and USA would break up the European leg. The season would end with Brazil (slightly later start time so it is a 8:30pm start in the UK and 9:30pm start in Central Europe) and LA.

I agree with you. Whilst it is amazing to see a Formula 1 car racing through a tight street course millimeters from walls, it doesn't make for a very exciting race. Even if a following car is several seconds faster than the car infront it's almost impossible to pass.

I doubt it will ever get droppped though, it's too much a part of the heritage of F1 and there is too much money wrapped up in Monaco.

Re: Your ultimate calender

Monaco will go when Ferrari goes

My Opinion:
a. F1 World Championship allocates a race for each continent. North American GP, South American GP, European GP, African GP, Asian GP, Australian GP.
b. Races allocated to each region of the world. Countries within each region bid for the race, or go into an agreement to alternate the race among them for an agreed fee.
c. Final slot(s) sold to the highest bidder(s) for two seasons.

No Particular Order:

01. South America GP
02. South American region
03. North America GP
04. Eastern North America region
05. Western North America region
06. European GP
07. Western Europe region
08. Eastern Europe region
09. Southern Europe region
10. British GP (Due to centralised F1 industry)
11. Italian GP (Due to Ferrari's F1 history)
12. Monaco GP (History, glitz, glamour, Flav's boat)
13. African GP
14. Asian GP
15. Pacific/South East Asia region
16. Australian GP
17. West Asia region
18. Middle East region
19. Highest bidder for 2yr contract
20. (Optional) 2nd highest bidder for 2yr contract
