13 teams x 3 cars = too many cars.

But 8 teams (the 2009 teams minus BMW and Toro Rosso) x 3 cars = not too many.

I think maybe it would have been a good option to do this, rather than admitting all the new teams. Importantly, you'd make a tight championship race much more likely. But since the new teams have been admitted there's not much they can do now.

Ahem Ok. i think its a rubbish idea by Luca to even think about it that way. i guess he never considered.... 3 teams of mechanics for three cars, Limited garage space (need a Boeing 747 hanger like space for the pit garage) and the COST...

how many people really believe teams like BRONDA and FIndia can afford to run 3 cars...? its even pain in the ass for them to run 2 (Complete) cars on an event..

Funny.. Remember how ferrari (and other teams) do call both their drivers inn, in situations... (Say Singapore 08  ) ... can you imagine 3 cars cuing up in the pits? one after another?.. thats a horrible horrible idea.

Without refueling the hold up wouldn't be quite as bad I think...

They used to keep a team car in the garage till fairly recently(ish) so i don't think it would be such a big problem

Keeping a car doesnt take much space.. but imagine 15 0r 20 ore guys in the same space... Thats gotta be something... and al the cost? ... Above all... i can not think of any place in pit lanes like monaco... Where the hell they're gonna put the tires?... The pitlane will be like... Stock market (Sorry, Could'nt think of anything worse... Help me if you can)

And its a way for more people to run in F1. Look how Williams started in the sport, a 1 car customer car, engine and transmission team (Who sometimes shouldnt forget their roots) and i belive that other teams were the same back then.
I like that very much Image.

But anyways, I doubt a third car will be permitted. Just because di Montezemolo is for it doesn't mean it will or should go through. His irrational point of view and comments are getting out of hand, too bad there's no one to stop him.
Glad someone sees my logic. And the theory for this is that the teams that are single car teams are all cost capped, but limited to $75 million per season, where 2 car cost capped teams are limited to $140 million per season. Thats would be my idea, give them a compeditive advantage with a little more money to spend on their car.

But lets not get in to that argument.

But id definatly be for 1 car teams before 3 car teams.

I agree with the one car teams but I'm not buying your budget cap idea just yet  .

Allowing new teams to feild just one car would be a good idea, as they could eventually add another car as their experience and/or budget increases. One car to start off with, then add if they want, quite simple.

It is quite simple for Ferrari, just need to buy BMW Sauber and call it as Scuderia Maserati. Then he will have four cars and fou drivers.

In principle F1 is healthier when it has pre-qualification. It usually reflects the number of teams waiting to get into F1 mainstream competition. Any move that would see three Maccas or Ferraris qualifying at the expense of another team, say one of the newbies, is a very bad move imo.

Montezemolo cannot change the rules single handed. Sir Frank would veto him down 10 s into any official proposal of a three car initiative. That he is still pushing this nonsense shows how much he has lost the plot. Perhaps he had an accident that was kept secret and he should see the doctor who examined Massa to get his head treated.

But FW cant withstand the evil FOTA master by himself, the year off rules still require unanimity, but the more than year off rule changes can go thru with just the majority, which is Also how FOTA runs.... So Luca only needs a Majority of FOTA(5 teams) and he then controls the vote of all 8(soon to be 9 since USF1 dont see the power that playing both sides of the fence can bring them) and those 8 or 9 FOTA votes are more than enough to push thru whatever retarded Ferrari agenda he wants, including 3 cars/team... as long as the rule change is more than 1 year away.

Sick isnt it? FOTA has surely fooled so many. But has brought nothing but the technical death of F1, at least until 2012.

And FOTA has the nerve to claim that it was their changes that attracted so many teams to sign up for the newly opened grid spots earlier this year, all while its own team members keep leaving F1.

It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that Luca seems to have lost the ability to count up to 2 would it?

Luca algebra:

3 backsides + 2 seats = I need another car
