Great to see the team pushing for upgrades. Even though it being a spring weekend they will not have as much time to dial in the setup, it shows they are pushing hard.

So is this confirmed to be the first real work from the new tunnel?
Pretty much yes. This is the new tunnel upgrade and coming from Rob Marshall.

Rob Marshall won't be responsible for this upgrade.

Does the nose look like it isn't dipping as much, or is that just the track being slower, or my imagination?

The front looks not to be rising and falling as much.

The push lap that Lando just did is quite remarkable: he lost most time in the first sector, which are the fastest corners, to only do a similar sector two as the fastest (and only) Ferrari and to even gain time in sector three, which has the long back straight. The laptime seems to be build up very differently with this upgrade.

It's such a change with Lando, I'd be surprised if they get it dialled in for the sprint and if Lando isn't also testing the car a little. Good news is that they can change settings for Full Qualifying tomorrow.

Well they seem to be tweaking it as time passes.

I'm not imagining it, that nose isn't moving much at all, it's very stable.

Both cars quite heavy on fuel on those laps. Explains part of that deficit in S1. They have been going around since they came out of the pits ~15 minutes ago.

Thanks a lot!

Both cars indeed seems to have been quite heavy on fuel while setting the 2nd and 4th fastest times. I don't want to get my hopes up, but ...

The new tunnel was available for the new car development after the summer break - https://www.mclaren.com/racing/formula- ... nd-tunnel/

Note this comment from the above link:
An old-specification McLaren model was used for the basic correlation of the wind tunnel ahead of the Summer Shutdown, which was the final stage of the process. Now complete, we notified the FIA that we would be leaving Toyota’s wind tunnel and moving into our new one. This is an important step in the evolution of McLaren Racing and the acceleration of our 2024 car design.
The recent interview in "The Race" with Otmar indicates that teams don't work on the new car until after the break - https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/rena ... r-verdict/

Based on the above points, can the narrative in this thread from some posters that the 2024 car was designed with the old wind tunnel end? It wasn't.
