Translated by DeepL:

HRC President Koji Watanabe, who was visiting the Abu Dhabi GP for the final race of the season,
made a promise to Horner for 2025.

"I promised Horner that we would definitely take back the constructors' title next year.
In 2025, which will be the final year of our collaboration, we will finish with two championships, including the drivers' championship."

The whole Japanese article.

Christian Horner, President of Red Bull, and Koji Watanabe, President of HRC, at the 24th round of the 2024 F1 season in Abu Dhabi.

Unfortunately this is a no 1 and no 2 car team full stop. No matter who is in that second seat is going to struggle. The team can be blamed for missing the WCC, no way it is all on Sergio.

And when checo was getting regular podiums at the start of the season? That was all thanks to Checo and in spite of the team?

Honda back Tsunoda in Red Bull driver talks

December 11, 2024
Jaden Diaz-Ndisang

Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson continue to await Red Bull’s call on who will become Max Verstappen’s next teammate. In the aftermath of Tsunoda’s post-season test with Red Bull, Honda have voiced their support for the Japanese driver.
Tsunoda on the agenda in Honda and Red Bull talks

It is no secret that Honda have been instrumental to Yuki Tsunoda’s path to Formula 1.

The Japanese manufacturer are the perhaps 24-year-old’s most consistent support, showing tremendous faith in his abilities.

With Honda power units playing an integral role to Red Bull’s Championship success, their considerations are relevant.

Tsunoda’s post-season Red Bull test was heavily influenced by Honda, who called for the VCARB driver to have an opportunity in the RB20.

Of course, it would be a stretch to suggest that Honda play a decisive role in Red Bull’s driver pairing.

Christian Horner ultimately has the final say on whether Tsunoda or Lawson are promoted.

Still, Honda’s outlook is still relevant, both internally and externally,

“Various discussions” over Tsunoda in the background

Honda Racing’s President, Koji Watanabe, has discussed Red Bull’s driver situation:

“I returned to Japan from Abu Dhabi yesterday afternoon,” as-web.jp quotes him as saying.

“And on Saturday, I had various discussions with Christian Horner about the drivers for next season and beyond.

“As I always say, the team has the right to decide on the driver – so our opinion is merely for reference.

“But from the HRC side, we believe that Tsunoda has the ability to be promoted to Red Bull and should be one of the candidates.

“I think what we could do is give him an opportunity to show his abilities to the world.

“So I asked for him to participate in this test, and we were able to make it happen…

“He [Tsunoda] very clearly analysed the differences between the RB [VCARB] and Red Bull car – and has given the team very useful advice and comments on that basis.

“I have confirmed from the report that Tsunoda himself is very satisfied.”

So the only reason why he tested for red bull at all is because Honda pushed for it with Horner

From that, I gather his chances of getting the seat next year are even lower than I thought

Praying I am not wrong about the RB21 being a dud.

This team still walked away with a title this year.

Hope they can get it back next year or well, at least have enough to fight for the driver's in the worst case.

First time I remember Red Bull not making progress in a season.

On Tsunoda or Lawson -- it'll probably end up like Perez since I doubt either of them are willing to admit they are simply not as good as Max is right now. Maybe they are, and it was the car holding them back. Time will tell. In any case it can't be as bad as 1.125 points per race -- that's some god tier ---.

Max has to go next 11 races without accumulating 4 more points or else he gets to sit one out. I think if we get a 2024 style competition there's almost zero chance he can avoid this scenario. We've now seen way too often he simply will not yield no matter the circumstances.
He was in similar situation in 2021 or 2022, I don't remember exactly, but he was a few points away from race ban for months and then he could go on by not receiving any for a long period.
But of course 3-4 can be received by just unlucky incidents like speeding in the box or something silly like that so it is definitely not comfortable.
Even if he is about to get 12, the FIA won't let him get 12. Because it's a show. Remember what they did with Gasly? Same thing will happen.

In this case, the bigger show would be to make Verstappen miss a race. I wouldn't put it past FIA in this case, especially if he's not leading in WDC at that time

Yeah, FIA seems to want to take control over drivers in recent months. Especially against the rebellious ones, such as Max. So I don't think they would be against setting an example with Verstappen. They also did not save Magnussen.
