I watched 10-15 mins near the end of the day2 session2, and happened to catch Norris in the McLaren.
Car looks on rails, didn't find under or over steer anywhere - turn in is sharp, exit is undramatic, Planted is the word,
This is the driver and team to beat, I have no doubts,

A shame Lando couldn't finish a proper hot lap.

Car looks strong.
Fuel and engine mode caveats aside, it looks strong but scrappy when wringing its neck, yesterday's lap looked smooth albeit we know well within itself, and while engine mode might account for the s1 losses looking at the exits of T2, T8 and T13 it's messy and I don't think we're in throw a rag that's been sitting near some fuel full quali mode yet.

Hopefully it's not a case of its a solid race car (ie fastest race pace) but we qualify p8 and 9 just by virtue of how close the field is and we can't use that race pace.

Oscar has been a bit anonymous Days 1 and 2. Hoping for a strong day from him tomorrow when conditions should be fastest

lets see if this long run will provoke reaction from other teams, it almost looks to good, but others teams can better judge. But even at high fuel and same tire the mclaren is dominant

the hot lap attempts did not look very fast anyway, I'd guess lower engine mode, S1 was 0.25s slower then SAI and S2 was purple by a tiny bit, S3 we have not seen as he pitted every time, but no purple minisectors there
Lando doesn’t go 8th gear even once, so he’s on a very very low engine mode

Oh I didnt notice that Lando's second stint was actually on C1. So the run on the entirety is actually quite comparable. Unless Ferrari refueled between stints (why the hell would they to be honest), this is a really competitive car racepace wise.

Honestly, that second stint is the most impressive here. Inferior tire, car still relatively heavy, yet he still was 0.3s up on Leclerc on average.

Looks exciting but I won't buy into it just yet.

Toto knows the game and how to play down expectations, though it does seem like we may be competing from the very start this year.

I'm still curious for the innovations. Are these the parts that crossover into next years regs?

People are misquoting. Toto said that about yesterday where arguably there were less reasons to be impressed by McLaren. I wonder what he had to say about them today.
