I am a bit more positive. The stints looked consistent, low deg, and if indeed high fuel with some refueling relatively ok in terms of pace.

The qualy runs were probably done with relatively high fuel loads and with a lot of setup experimentation to be able to assess the responsiveness to these changes. Hence the relatively low amount of laps in the last 90m of the session for him.

Avg race pace gap between Perez vs Verstappen in 2022 - 0.300 (Great deg)
Avg race pace gap between Perez vs Verstappen in 2024 - 0.560 (Bad deg)

Compare Perez to Lawson. Perez was known as a "tyre whisperer" and the closest he got to Max was 0.3 in a great car. It wouldn't surprise me if Max is 0.5 a lap faster than Lawson at a minimum.

When you look at that, and take off 0.5, how does Lawson's stint times compare to Norris and Leclerc?

I'm very curious to see what Max can do tomorrow, however I don't think he'll do a full race sim like Lando and Charles today, think he will refuel between stints like last year (and today Liam).

Did they definitely refuel between stints today? By my reckoning he didn't go into the garage between his two hard tyre stints.

If F1-Tempo is accurate, Lawson didn't go inside. There's very little time between the two stints.

It's impressive times don't change much after pitting for new tires and less fuel?

"With the RB21, we've been working on the set-up to understand how the car works and reacts. The characteristics of our car are more or less what we thought it could have and the drivers are quite happy. That's positive. In terms of speed, we don't know how we compare to the others."

Wache says they have reduced the potential on this car compared to RB21. RB20 must have look real good in the simulations lol. Fell into a W13 trap the more I hear.

Anyways, indeed we will find out tomorrow where we stand. Today was weird. Hope Max can put out a clearer picture and do a good race sim.

In previous years only Perez did the full race simulations. In 23 and 24 red bull ran to a delta with max and if max did 3 stints then thered be refuelling

Red Bull technical director Pierre Wacher says the team has brought forward some of the updates it had originally planned for Australia.

Just testing extreme setups to be able to assess car behaviour with the new wing. Plus car is still on relatively high fuel in these qualy runs.
