That's the best result he could hope barring some freakish events. That first stint in medium was the worst, the start of hard was average and the end of the hard stint was actually decent and interesting.

I don't know if Max found some balance in this car with low fuel and hard tyres with proper temperature but it highlights that it will be hard to compete because frankly, these ar the conditions that will rarely happen to do 40 laps on hards.

How is Max just 8 points Norris and second the WDC is a very good result. Thats the same as after Melbourne. I will take that p4, what a move on Leclerc. Now please find better race pace, the last stint on the hards was quite good out of nowhere. Maybe there is still some pace in the car. They have to analyse what happened on medium tyres. Japan could be better maybe.

Nah that final stint we were better than Mercedes and Ferrari. Also in Melbourne we were, maybe that first stint was an anomaly. Thats the positive thing we can take out of this front-limited track. When we are in the right window we can fight for pole, and at least for a podium for now. If Red Bull wants to fight for wins they have to find at least 0,3s.

This is a big IF, but if Red Bull's upgrades actually can provide 2 to 3 tenths race pace, it would look so very interesting at the front. This is one of those years where if Red Bull get development right there is potential to do something reasonable. Of course Macca aren't going to sit still but it would be good if Red Bull can push the car a little more to the front.

I am not really surprised by Mercedes' performance here. This track is like Spain/Hungary for their cars. Even the zeropod car was competitive in these tracks with relative advantage to the top dropping to just 2 to 3 tenths in race pace while it was over 1s elsewhere. Mercedes have some baked-in characteristics that help them do well at Spain Silverstone Hungary especially.

Underwhelming race. Fortunately ferrari detonated themselves again, else it would be P6. You're not gonna win anything with a first stint like what we just saw. The meds ruined the podium chances in first 15 minutes of the race.

Agreed, but it's fairly close, so the pecking order may vary a bit from track to track. I'd be interested in seeing what the RB can do on a rear limited track.

China is front limited. Mercedes is always good on front limited track. They have a strong front like Mclaren. I think the car will be better in the next 3 tracks as they have suited Red Bull in the past. Suzuka is high speed. Jeddah is high speed. Bahrain is rear limited.

Max did a great job here in the last stint. However it's no way comparable to McLarens. They had a limping car and a cruising car during the final stint. If they really choose to push provided the tires holding up, the gap would have been much more.

Jeddah is also usually not a degradation race. It's push till the end for the most part if I am not mistaken.

Suzuka should be very interesting. I still expect McLaren to win in any case but maybe Red Bull can get a podium there.

With their current performance you'd almost wonder if he should take such a swap...
