selecting 1st gear ??

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

It has stepped ratios and is lighter and far more compact than the current 19th century layshaft boxes.
It would give no engagement lurch and would drive away smooth as inertia for the vehicle was established.
Gear changes would be as rapid as current but with the addition of power on constantly variable shift over lap.
Two top F1 gearbox experts have looked at it under confidentiality and have found no flaws.
Unfortunately vested projects and lack of resources is holding up development.
And I have an engine running on tap-water, perhaps we should meet?

I do not think so master.
Producing an engine that runs on tap water is not at all difficult.

Not at all mikey, I have invented a carburettor separating H2 from Oxygene and then back together again! Oh, mama!

I know xpensive, it was exactly the same when I suggested electronic gear selection to Ferrari in 1988, having used it myself since 1977.
Still they finaly woke up and built a system for Mansel.
Shame they all still use 19th century layshaft boxes though, now how ancient is that.

I remeber when I was a boy I told Enzo to build race cars for a living. Now look at where he is.

This was right after I told some bloke to build a boat before the flood.

BS meter off the charts. :wtf:

My transmision is way better than yours there is no mechanical link from the engine to the drive wheels and it is 98% efficent and can do regentive braking. Every one line around me now and see how awesome I am.

Not 98% efficient but only one bearing and no gear movement in direct top so close.
It is also an energy recovery device.
It is called an Electric Shift Energy Recovery Unit.
Equaly usable in hybrid road cars and full EV,s.
Yep b/s meter off the clock, so what do I do deny I have it?

I have built mine and tested it. Mine is called two electric motors hooked to a black box.

Hmmm I did something similar in 1977 using lead acid batteries, got a 12 second quater mile with it.

I took my carburettor to NASA and proposed it for that elusive mission to Mars, but they say they first need to make sure there is water there for the return. Details.

You would not need water on Mars, only a hydrogen fuel cell and hot air and you have got loads of that.
You could always increase the mass flow through it and produce your own methane, they say NASA produces lots of that.

Re: selecting 1st gear ??

Anyway back to the subject.
F1 cars engage first gear by using electronic control to disengage an obsolete clutch, that is then used to slip dry friction plates and produce and waste heat energy.
This is supposed to connect the drive from the obsolete internal combustion engine to the ancient 19th century layshaft gearbox and then on to the rear wheels.
It works sometimes and other times the engine stalls or the wheels spin out of control.
Bit basic really.
