There is a good chance they might even be faster with the updated floor. Remember that Stella said that the opposition are one moderate upgrade away from surpassing Mclaren. Any news from Mclaren if they are gonna bring an upgrade on the table?

They tested a new diffuser in SA. Might race it here.

New diffuser I hear. I suppose they tested it but not raced it in Saudi Arabia. Hopefully it will help the team increase the gap, improve drivability and unlock the untapped potential of the car.

During the FIA drivers' press conference ahead of the F1 Miami Grand Prix, Piastri answered if he had been forced to driver around the 'issues' in McLaren's 2025 car, the MCL39, and if the changes has suited him better.
"I think it's, again, a lot of the car is very similar to last year," said Piastri. "I think there are some things that we kind of identified from testing that were a bit different and maybe not the nicest characteristics to have, but it's not a huge departure from what we had last year."

Having discarded the proposed differences between last year's McLaren compared to this year, Piastri highlighted the work his side of the garage and himself have done to put themselves in the position they are in.
"I think we've done a very good job, myself with my engineers on how we deal with that, how I deal with that for my driving, how we deal with that with the setup."
Does it suit him better? The Australian replies: "I think it's a stretch to say it suits me more, because I really don't think there's that much difference [with last year's car], but ultimately the team's going to make the fastest car they can, whatever that looks like and it's kind of up to us to deal with that."
"I think for me it's very similar to last year, some small tweaks but yeah I think it's just been down to hard work why the start of this year has looked a little bit stronger for myself than last year."

They've different styles. It's better to say it suits Lando less, rather, those are his words, which in turn means this car is more to Oscar's liking than Lando.

Piastri is saying "It doesn't suit me anymore than him. I have just adapted better."

No he's saying for him it doesn't drive different. But if you don't like to muscle the car on entry like Lando, it might not feel different.

But yeah, you need to adapt and drive it.

Practise 1 is underway and so far I see the two Mercedes having the upper hand with Sainz 3rd. We seems to be 3 tenths off the pace. Though I don't think we showed all our pace yet as there is no chance Williams is faster than us.

Anyone has any engine data?

McLaren did not use the updated diffuser here. So seems like an upgrade that didn't work or just a test part who knows

Have teams brought test parts previously to not use them immediately, especially given they brought it for both cars?

Maybe they have a bigger package that's coming soon I guess based on this new floor. That's the positive explanation I can come up with.

I think Dr Obs also mentioned he suspected it was a test part for McLaren. Possibly evaluating something to better judge the development direction.

It could have been a failed update though. After so many succesful ones, they’re bound a failure anytime now.

Stella did say previously it was for testing.
