They really have to beat Piastri tomorrow. I feel it's do or die. That gap cannot grow. Try early undercut and then block him even if Norris goes ahead of both. Piastri cannot be allowed to win tomorrow. Tsunoda would have been useful had he not binned it.
The car has field leading straight line speed here I think (almost 8kmph faster than Oscar), if Max can get into the DRS he may have a chance but following the MCL through the final 2 corners won't be easy. Otherwise, will have to resort to an undercut but that will only work if Max can hold on close to Oscar, esp. when the tyre deg is a big unknown.
I'm kind of worried from T1 for the same reason.
I think both Piastri and Max will be determined to turn first.
Quite a long run down to T1 and McLaren is quite slow on a straight line. It's very likely they will end up side by side and whoever gets to the corner first will try to claim it for himself and push the other wide (or have a clash).
Yes, but the MCL only loses top speed on the top end, from a standing start PIA will be fine unless he has a worse launch.
yeah Red Bull has superior straight line speed but McLaren is super through S2 and following through Rivazza is difficult, it'll be hard to attempt overtake

Piastri has weaker tire management compared to Norris so he is the one you want in front if the pace is similar.
If the tire deg is bad then it won't matter. They would even be hurt by an inability to stay out for a VSC or safety car (the rookies crashed a lot this weekend so expect more in the race). Mclaren also benefitted from VSC stops in Miami because they could stay out longer. Tire management is key.

True, especially towards the end of the stints but we are assuming that the cars will be close in race pace for Max to make a solid impact. We will see. I think the upgrades have helped but I don't think they have helped enough to stay with Piastri over an entire race distance.

Max took a lot out of his tyres in S1, and didn't have anything for the rest of the lap. Main losses were T8 and T18 (rivazza2) - both losses understandable, as the car has to stop sliding and only then he can apply throttle at exit.
If Max doesn't get ahead of Piastri by lap3 (DRS or with a T1 skirmish) , then it's better to not destroy tyres and settle for P2 or P3 (because Norris is sure to come up close behind).
Credit to Oscar. Good lap, even being held up with S3 on his lap. When I seen max 2 tenths up in S1 I thought this is it, but then lost it all in S2 again. Was hoping for something in S3 given the traffic for Oscar but it never come about.
P2 isn’t bad tomorrow, important to get a good launch and hopefully challenge with the tow down into turn 1/2.
Pleased that the upgrades have still put the car in a better place. The FP3 showed the RBR worked well on the mediums, so that’s promising to look for tomorrow. The deg will be the one to watch.
Also, shouldn't forget that MCL also brought some upgrades this weekend, so the pace the RB21 showed was quite good and put a good gap vs RUS on the C6. Tyre wear and TD remain the 2 big factors that will decide the WDC.
