Do you think Lewis will be again fast with flat floor in 2026 or floor will not make difference?
Why is venturi floor so sensitive at height compare to flat floor, why they dont have this problems in flat floor era?
I am not sure the 2026 floor is going to be flat. The regulations for 2026 is still 'ground effect' but with narrower and shorter cars and with 'active aero' (moving bodywork things).
Flat floor era - the cars had a 'rake' where the volume of space beneath the floor was like a triangular wedge (thicker end at rear) - in other words, it like a giant version of the diffuser present in sports cars, characterized with a mild expansion ratio.
Ground effect era - the cars have a 'venturi tunnel' (like a rubber water pipe with increasing diameter towards the rear, but squeezed to lowest diameter in the middle by a tight sleeve) with a high diffuser expansion ratio.
Both are based on the same principle, but with completely different mechanisms of utilizing the principle. In the ground effect case, the sensitivity to ride height is much much higher, because the expansion ratio decreases exponentially with increased ride height, while in case of flat floor it decreases polynomially.
