Agree with comments about floor sensitivity. I've been thinking since I saw the first porpoising in '22 that the flat floor had some advantages including providing similar downforce while having high ground clearance, and at the rear, VERY high ground clearance.

Imola should be considered a rite of passage in Formula 1. Not everything must be about overtaking or who pays the most money. This element has been lost. What is the meaning and prestige of winning a Formula 1 championship if 75% of the calendar is easy to drive temporary circuits. Thats also why Monaco must stay. You aren't an F1 driver until you've pushed and binned it around the walls of Monaco at least once. This is what links champions of the past to those of the present day.

Interesting data from Q3, showing both runs of PIA and VER :



PIA improved the end of straight chicane at the beginning of the lap and gained massively between T7 (tosa) and T9 (piratella). He got the exit of the hairpin long corner perfect, and absolutely caned it through T8-T9 towards aqua-minerali. This is where he 'found time' between his first and second run.

VER, we can see him pay the price for a stonker of an S1 (S1 finishes before T7) in both his runs by overheating his tyres - the C6 was getting boiled by the RB21 over S2 & S3. However, the reason he lost pole is something that happened at T14-15 (variante alta chicane) in his second run, compared to his previous run - while he had an early entry and early exit in the first run, he delayed it a bit for the second run (trying late entry) and was consequently late on the throttle at the exit of variante alta, towards the two 90 degree rivazza corners. I consider the variante alta loss in the second run, a rare 'mistake' from VER.

should normally be a 1-stopper. There wasn't much deg in practice, and Imola is one of the tracks with the biggest pit stop time loss (28s).

Imola was off the calendar for quite a long time.

And it's hardly some totally unique challenge. We've also got tracks from F1's backlog like Barcelona and Hungary and Magny Cours and the Nurburgring GP layout and Suzuka and whatnot that all have similar characteristics.

That said, I'm not against Imola's inclusion necessarily, but I dont think it's adding some terribly unique flair to the calendar, either. There's a number of other classic circuits I'd rather see return that I think would be better if I was given the option.

No chance. It’s going to be rather cool weather wise, so probably going to be like Japan.
I expect a lap from Max for pole then he’ll be closely followed home

That would be really miracle...this is a track where it is super error prone to go to the absolute limit. Every inch of too late braking is not forgiven, but sends you over the high kerbs.
I think if the McL just take it easy and one of them gets a clean lap in, this is pole.

Max is that man who can push to that last inch though and the McLaren driver don’t seem to be able to drive a 98-99% lap to take a pole, it’s 100% or a mistake from them is the qualifying tactic

We both nearly nailed it.
One McL driver took a clean lap and is on pole. Max nearly error free, maybe rather tire than a small slip.
Whatever...again one McL driver not getting Q together. Unfortunately WDC will be boring because of one driver underperforming. I was really hoping for a three way fight.

There is never a fight between teammates anymore. Teams are not going to waste time and effort coming up with unique strategies for each car as if they are rivals.

There will be options based on grid position for the best race pace, but whichever car is ahead after the first lap will finish ahead. We have seen it over and over again.

Zak is not Ron Dennis, and we won't be seeing Prost vs Senna or Alonso vs Hamilton from him.
