Strange Race. The Red Bull was faster and the result fair. Really terrible entry to turn 1 from Piastri, had he held that then clean air might have helped.
Strategy just seemed odd but I don't think we could have strategised to the win.
Piastris pace was poor, too. Not a good Sunday.
I agree that we didn't lose the win due to strategy. That is not what I am saying. But I do think that they did not maximize their potential with the strategy.
First PIA stop I could understand, undercut looked powerful but they had to understand they are pitting into a bunch of hard runners so you'll struggle to gain on those that overcut.
After that, pitting NOR while he still had good pace was always a bad idea. I fully expected VSC/SC in this race and of course it materialized.
Second NOR stop makes no sense if you are not trying to fight for the win. I hope it is not just a defensive stop to not lose both tires to old tires. That is not what a WCC winning and WDC leading team should be thinking about.
And then, at the end, when you are given a chance to reset everything and get an opportunity to fight for the win, you don't do a swap to at least try. By not swapping you are risking a double DNF because they will fight for P2.
So out of 3 pitstops, I can only say one made sense at the time (PIA stop) and that one turned out bad as well. When you couple this with bad tire management from PIA and unlucky VSC you get this result.
