Promoter wanting a GP in Scotland

A Scottish Promoter wants a GP in Scotland. This guy does the 'F1 Rocks' shows and believes Scotland can hold a Grand Prix relatively easily. However, it won't be Knockhill, it'll be in/near Glasgow and it's definetly possible within 10 years. However the Scottish/British Government will unlikely fund it.

It sounds like a street-race. Either complete or in part. I'm not familiar with Glasgow and the 2 roads mentioned.

What are peoples thoughts on this?

I think i know the layout that he would be wanting to take, i am a Glasgow born and bread boy afterall. But i think it would be wrong they way the promoter would want, there would be very few open places to put grandstands etc... As well as the fact the city would be closed down for quite literally 1 week, id want to keep the city going as much as i could economically whilst any GP would be going on.

Glasgow is not the place for it though - it is far too bumpy and there's too much elevation change.

There's so much scope for development in central Scotland with a massive fanbase and infrastructure - they'd be stupid not too.

I was thinking about that as well, but more specifically thinking about Strathclyde Country Park. Well in reach with the M73, M8, soon to be complete M74 and many other motorways near it, and a massively open and varied area to run a track thrugh.

Glamour: We have just hosted the first MOBO awards outside of London, and have roughly 100+ music gigs and events a week in the city.
Weather: We may have problem with that yes, but one good thing is that Bridgestone would get data for their wets & inters.
Money: Why is it that out side of London, Glasgow is the shopping capitial of the UK??? Shurly we have got to have some money to do that.

I will say this piece as well; Glasgow has a rich sporting history, Google or Wiki Rangers or Celtic or The Old Firm and youll find out, altho that could throw up more negitives than positives in one way or another. We can orginise events, otherwise we wouldnt have had the UEFA Cup Final in 2007 and the Champoions League Final in 2003-4. We have the second biggest multi-event championships outside the Olympics coming here, the Commonwealths Games in 2014.

Other than that as a city, Glasgow would be the best venue. Altho i think there would be other better suited places to go in Scotland, but i think there could also be a bit of bandwaggon jumping going on as well.

Glamour? There is heritage with both really old cities and a lot of F1 history.
Weather? Glasgow's wet but Edinburgh is very dry (half the annual precipitation of Rome)
Money? The central belt of Scotland is one of the richest areas in Europe.

Yeah a pretty uninformed post there. Few people can afford to live in Scotland, unless you can work there. There is a lot of money in Scotland. The backdrop of the Castle would make Edinburgh a great venue I think, as far as a street circuit goes.

And the stands would be full. Not like the empty grandstand jokes that are becoming Bahrain and Turkey.

I can attest to that. I can spend hours just driving around - the roads are fantastic. Almost rally stages in some places.






Just add marshalling posts and you've got yourself a track

On some of Scotland's country roads it would be amazing. In Glasgow, ummm no.

Some of the best roads in the UK are up there, but the citys are no race track, too crowded, where would the fans be?

Scotland has some awesome driving roads. IRC is coming next month and I@m hoping to go
Anyway, I think it could happen. Your route is interesting ESPimperium. I'd quite like to see it take that one. Do you have a rough distance estimate? So a time can be estimated.
Confused_Andy, you've got a good point there.Cities up here aren't half crowded.

I don't think it could be held in Edinburgh anymore, as the tram lines would play havoc with the cars. So no Edinburgh Castle in the background.
