Yeah but they're not 8 tenths faster than the next car on merit.
Sure they are, at these track temps. If the temperature comes down then the gap will come down and they might be, idk, 3 tenths ahead.
These cold weather races may have masked true McLaren pace.
It's not that they become faster when it's hot, it's the others that become slower. McLaren can maintain their tyres in a good window at far warmer track temperatures. We saw this in Jeddah, they were miles ahead in daytime running and much closer at night.

48.1C track temp and rising.

So McLaren are guaranteed the front row. Who is getting second pole in P3?

My prediction 1. Piastri 2, Norris 3. Russel 4. Leclerc 5. Max.

Mclaren takes the pole position by at least 0,3-0,5 s. Ominious.

Mario Isola, Pirelli manager, said on Sky F1 Italia that the C1 hard tyre has poor grip and is overheating due to sliding more. Thus, most of the teams will have a two-stop race strategy based on the C2 and C3 tyres.

Yuki isn’t that bad. That team is just absolute trash for the second driver and side of the garage.

I know every man and his dog will claim it's not the case. But the car is developed for one driver and one driver only who has a very unique style few else have.
The compromises other drivers have to make on setup means it's just very slow otherwise.

2nd - 5th was separated by 0.014 in Q1 from 3 different cars. Goodness

Ricardo did well when he was with Max before, but maybe back then the car wasn't entirely built around Max, but one of the reasons for Ricardo leaving the first time was he was feeling that RedBulls were favoring Max, so your guess is good as mine, but people just don't want to believe that for now, someday when Max leaves the team and some other driver drives then we might see almost similar pace between two teammates.

Yes, but I don't think it’s just that. As a driver…that does not explain it all. Driving style/car balance explains tight gaps but not this across years with multiple teammates.

It is data, it is setup, it is the engineers, flow of information, execution and procedures.

And it is not that we are saying Yuki should be matching Max. The failure is that they have has many talented drivers that never are able to be the best they can be. Such a shame.

If you swap sides of garage the gaps would change.

Daniel was 0.5s or more off Max in quali in multiple occasions. Back then he would be right behind him on the grid, like p4 or p6. Today that means you are out of Q1.
