Barcelona was supposed to suit Red Bull more.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Lovely job.
Turn 1/2 will be madness tomorrow I hope we get through it OK but max will cause trouble.
People will talk down lando being out qualified by oscar but p2 and better race pace is a great position to be in.

It's actually a relief that the mindless RB - driven chatter has been put to bed by this emphatic slap down.
Let's wait for the race. Some were claiming the superior tire wear was coming from the flexi-wing as well, so pace tomorrow will be telling.

Back on the qualifying topic though, it's a shame that Lando continues to suffer pulling a lap together when it matters.
Too many mistakes at the end there, had a snap at T1, ran wide at T2, rand wide at T4, snapped a bit at T5, twitchy out of T7 and the list goes on and on ...

It's surprising he improved at all in that last lap, shocking driving.

I think track temperature is a more powerful driver than track layout, qualifying here was run from 48 down to 43 degrees.

Piastri is delivering as usual. But tomorrow, provided both cars survive Verstappen’s divebomb, I think Lando will best Piastri convincingly. The heat of the summer will play to Lando’s advantage now, Piastri still has some way to go there I think. But McLaren MUST make sure to prioritize beating Max above anything else, it’s serious now.

Just watched the qualy lap analysis on Sky, the Piastri's lap was just calm and smooth, Norris just drove nothing like Piastri and made lot of mistakes from the start itself especially in turn 4 i think he ran wide and lost the rhythm. Piastri is just doing a great job right now, Lando has speed but is simply not consistent.

Oh I actually think it's almost guaranteed that Max is running into P1 tomorrow after the start.
I just think that unlike Imola, it seems like they got the better race car here, so they won't be completely lost out of the start.

"The two tenths loss are in his head, he was overdriving. We see it a lot with Lando, when the pressure is on, the pressure gets to him"

Paraphrasing, but that was Nico Rosberg and Naomi Schiff.
I wasn't a fan of Nico Rosberg, for me was an average driver with an incredible car underneath. And that thing with winning the championship and retiring was like when we were kids and the one with the ball after an eventual win was taking the ball home, end of the game.
So I don't put much on Rosberg's words. He is more like a "click bite" guy than a real analyst. Or maybe he know the mind game cause Lewis crushed him for tenths of races.

Anyway, a huge performance from McLaren and really needed after all this FW saga. Including some of our forum colleagues mentioning a HUGE impact for McLaren and putting Rob Marshall and Andrea Stella words into liars side.
Waiting for tomorrow and with a good start my only curiosity is if Zak will allow them to fight later in the race.

Tomorrow both drivers should aim to block Verstappen and then once they disappear in the distance they can battle it out.

Per Stella, it was just the high speeds that the RB would enjoy.

Looking at the telemetry, Max was slower everywhere apart from the penultimate turn where either Piastris tyres had gone or he made a mistake. But he looked to have gone a bit deep and struggled on the exit.

Guys can someone please tell me where the narative came from that RB has a superior race car for this weekend?

O checked the race simulations lap times of fp2 and lando had monster race pace. He did high 1.18s and max did low 1.20s

Did i miss something?

Narrative about Barcelona suiting more Red Bull was just PR bulls*it, Stella said off record they came here to silence the competition. Mission accomplished so far.

Agree with this. That's getting into "seering" levels, and toward McL significant attribute with tyre condition management.

simply stunning, this car did not get any significant upgrade since Australia (apart of diffuser tweak, if my memory served me well). But it is still 0.3s faster in qualifying (by race 9) than RedBull (and the rest) who brought multiple upgrade packages.
