I don’t think Vassuer has what it takes to get Ferrari back to winning championships. He came from a back marker team and I think he is a perfect fit for that kind of operation, but not something like Ferrari where the expectations are completely different. The drivers love him, that has been the case ever since he was in the junior series and that’s really great but it’s not enough.

Someone like Newey might’ve been able to put together a good operation.. maybe, but really bringing Ferrari back to the top so probably the hardest job in F1 currently.

Fred has what it takes to bite back at who ever made that coordinated media attack, love the way he spoke in the media. he doesn't need to waste his time on dealing with stupid higherup.. I mean its been known Ferrari has issue recurting people from outside italy.. imagine this drama who wants to go there and work? vs someone like McLaren who has no drama team is stable as been stable for a while, stella has long term contract so does brown.. who wants to work for Ferrari when there is so much turbulence within the team... yea this team is not going to win anything in anytime soon. maybe next decade when they get there head out of whatever manure they have put under

What is the identity of Ferrari ?
- A supercar maker who happens to have an F1 team, so that some of that 'cutting edge' tech and reputation can rub off on supercar engg & sales
or
- A company whose pride and glory is F1, but makes supercars and sells them at exhorbitant prices, to fund the F1 operation and keep the rest for the fat cats at the top.

Either way, they rake in the money. Question is, which of the above is the core philosophy.

It changed when Luca left. They are a media team now, not a racing team, and that exactly imo is the philosophy that needs to change. They need to go back to their roots of hard core racing as the principal meaning, and lose the media motivation, but that just isn't going to happen. Money is king and will continue to guide this team imo, unfortunately.

Montezemolo was a colossal fraud as well.
He only did one thing right, that is convincing Fiat management to give him the money to relaunch the brand through F1. His ego almost pushed him to fire Todt in 96 but MSC saved Jean and that is when the real Ferrari was born. Montezemolo was completely pushed out from the GES which was managed only by Todt. This is why Ferrari was able to become the best team in the world.
When Montezemolo started to influence stuff once again, in 2006 things went to --- in just a few years. One of the worst manager of all time.

Just a small recap of his genius moves:
- Fired Schumacher to hire Raikkonen which is equivalent to divorce from 2007 Megan Fox to marry current Angela Merkel
- Allowed the ban of testing which was Ferrari main competitive advantage
- Didn't make Ross Brawn TP after Todt because he knew he couldn't "control" him. Ross left and went to build Brawn GP and then Mercedes. The rest is history
- Agreed to the hybrid PU which damaged not only Ferrari which was years and years behind Mercedes but also the entire Formula 1 with one of the most boring era of all time
- Fired Aldo Costa, one of the best engineers in F1 modern era, for absolutely no reasons at all

I know it isn’t the proper way to do things, but Leclerc and Hamilton need to step up and defend Vasseur, to make him work without management interferences, take it or leave it conditions. Otherwise they will have same toxic structure in the company, only a different TP.

I been thinking about this as lot, Maybe Fred should of bended a little to bring in Newey and if he has to relinquish a little control -so be it. I wonder if this really put him in the light that he couldn't lure Newey even when they gave Fred a blank cheque to get newey. Fred is probably too easy go lucky guy for the top board. They maybe feel they need someone who is more realistic. With experience how a top team operates hence why they tried getting Horner.

Remember, Fred was NOT the first choice for John Elkaan, so i think he was best of the candidates they had at their disposal.

Wasnt there rumours from good sources last season how the technical team (when Fred was TD when cardile left), they wasn;t happy working with Fred? I wonder if the word in the factory is out that fred is not the right person as he is too happy-go-lucky guy.

How this is related with the current state about Ferrari, people are talking about the upper management messing around and changing people in span of 2-3 years expecting the solution of the problems. The derailment of discussions happening in this thread in this particular year is atrocious.

FWIW, Luca did his time in the race team under Enzo. It was also on his watch when Todt served 14 years as TP. Every other TP before and after only lasted an average 3 years, going back to 1978.

On more relevant topic, Canada looks like another dismal race looming. It's unusual how Ferrari haven't put together a good race in a few years now, but the track on paper always suits the cars.

It's funny the perception of Vasseur is that he's too jovial because by all of AR's accounts, Vasseur is a no nonsense and serious person; according to them that's part of why he gets along well with Leclerc and Hamilton, who tend to be a bit emotional.

Yep. It was evident in 2023 when he brought in the no BS approach. He cleaned up the house, brought in fresh talent, improved race operations, swapped Xavi out for Bozzi and brought in Hamilton. The problem right now is technical and it doesn't really help that Serra inherited Cardile's car. That being said, heads will unfortunately roll if the new upgrades don't fix the car.
