Kyalami to be upgraded to FIA Grade 1 standard

Post

FIA approves design proposals to upgrade South Africa’s Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit to an international standard for hosting Formula 1.

I haven't seen any news from traditional F1 sources, but this will be great for F1's presence in Africa. What do you think?

I'd give it at least 3 years if they're going to host a Grand Prix there. Las Vegas took a little over 1 year, but it's Las Vegas. Track looks really fun to drive otherwise, Hamilton will extend if his form doesn't drop like a rock by 2028.

It’s nice to drive on the PC, a bit like Barcelona but without the long straight.

I don’t see where you would overtake in a modern F2 or F1 car.

I still do not see, why they would want this. As long as there is no big player/payer behind, FOM will not race there.
Africa is simply no market where they would sell just because they are running on a track in South Africa. So it is like the Orient races...it happens if government or an oil company pays.

There has been talk of doing a street track in Cape Town. Slight re-work of the street track that was used for two Formula E races then dropped. That would be a REALLY pitiful track so Kyalami would be much better than that.
What a sad video!

It seems South Africa and Thailand are both in a race to secure an F1 race. I wonder which is these two countries will get a race first.

What? Turn 1 for sure. And there are other places where I think the more skilled overtakers can make things happen.

I love this track layout. I think races there would be absolutely mega.

It's already Grade 2, surely the change to Grade 1 can't be so much that it takes 3 years.
