I forgot to watch sprint, never happened before. Not surprised Max won.

that was a surprisingly boring sprint race imo
Unsurprisingly?
I expected more than 4 overtakes  , just ended up being almost everyone in a drs train

Season in a nutshell. Just boring. It is what it is. Just basically waiting to name a Macca world champion, and then we all move on.

As for tomorrow, pray for rain.

Very predictable. Looking at last year with how impossible it was to overtake, this was a no brainer once Max got past. Oscar was 3 tenths behind AFTER Eau Rouge at one point and still didn’t even threaten.
Max getting the job done in lap1. That's it, a boring sprint as a spectator. A brief excitement when Max locked up in the bus stop chicane in lap10, which allowed Piastri to close into something like 3 tenths before the climb to EauRouge (I thought the overtake is going to happen finally), but Max positioned his car superbly at the end of Kemmel straight, and killed the opportunity. Norris disappointed too, by getting close to Piastri and then backing off a bit towards the end.

However, as an engineer, watching the sprint was fascinating. I was surprised how Max wasn't losing terribly in sector2 like he did yesterday in FP and SQ. It was a proper dogfight with battery deployment and recharging. The Redbull is weakest w.r.t the McLaren, through T14.

They way they have setup the RB21 of Max - if the race is dry, quali position won't matter as Max will breeze through cars in the Kemmel straight ; however if it rains (which it looks almost certainly), getting a podium will itself be a mega achievement. T6-T6-T8 and T12-T13-T14 will be painful in low grip conditions.

Hamilton 358 km/h, very close to record speed, which I think is Leclerc 361 kmh from 2020 or 2021.

Watching F2 sprint race, I really hate the use of safety cars and red flags the last few years. The race director throwing the safety car for a car that can be easily recovered under VSC. I really don't like the direction the sport is heading.

Record speed for Ferrari? I think Bottas hold record for top speed in F1 in Mexico 2016.

I guess Max rallying out of turn 1 and throwing away p3 and HAM and ANT out in Q1 are not worth discussing in race thread.
Nice 1-2 looking forward to tomorrow. I'm hoping 2nd row starters will not be as dangerous as today as Max is running more wing, but they will surely be going for it.

On the Multiviewer, they said it's 359kph. It seems that despite being the whole Sprint race in a DRS train only by the 8th lap, he recorded that speed, meaning on that lap he was close enough to get the full slipstream effect from the guys in front.

Image

On the other hand, tracinginsights.com revealed that during that lap, he maintained a constant speed of 358 kph between 2122 and 2164 meters of the track, which is approximately 42 meters at that speed...

Regarding the race, based on the top speeds and sector times, I`d wonder which driver set up his car for a wet race tomorrow ...

Based on the above data, maybe I should rather ask which driver gambled for a dry race ... it seems that only OCO, LEC, RUS, TSU, and COL are willing to risk tomorrow ...

Must be the polling rate of 4 hz that missed that last 1 kmh. F1MW takes data from official fia speed traps in these charts.

358kph is 99m/s, 42m are roughly 0.4s and the jitter in these graphs can be 0.25s.

There is no way to be at this level of precision, you can say HAM touched that speed, not that he kept it for 42m, could have been 70m, or could have been 15m.
