🌬️ How wind hurt McLarens and helped Leclerc 🌬️

In Q3 laps, Leclerc finally had a significant advantage over McLarens on straights. Basically, it was the biggest difference in Qualy ehen it mattered the most. What changed? The wind

As Piastri said in post-Q interview, it changed direction and made life more difficult in corners. What it also changed was the loss McLaren sustained in Q3 on straights

Even though Piastri still owned the corners in Q3, Leclerc's advantage on straights managed to neutralise this. Finally, it was down to different line that Leclerc takes in finsl turn and better acceleration on exit

What was a slight tailwind in Q2 became a noticeable headwind in Q3 - direction shifted from South to West and becsme a bit stronger too

Piastri felt it a lot, losing almost 2 tenths on main straight alone in Q3 vs Q2 lap. T2 was an improvement and for a while the lap is about the same. However, the final sector was a whole different story in Q3 and clearly neither Piastri nor Norris didn't get used to it quickly enough

Image

Leclerc adapted better to different conditions and gained time in corners in Q3 vs Q2. He gained 3 tenths between T2 and final turn vs Q2, where Piastri lost 2 tenths vs Q2

Tyres left for the race:

(the official files list Hülkenberg with 3 new softs for whatever reason, but makes no difference anyway).

Strategy suggestions:

On Friday the hards didn't look great to me, but seems like most teams still prefer it for the majority of the race.

If a 2-stop really is the better choice, this could also mean that the Aston Martins will start on Softs, by the way. Will be interesting to see how far Alonso can move up at the start.

Here's a radar. Hungaroring is toward the north-east of that little circle in middle

Doesn't really look like the rain will arrive on time, unless the wind picks up massively. The cell has hardly moved at all over the past hour

Prediction :
1. NOR wins, LEC P2, PIA P3.
2. VER to start on the S, be the earliest guy to go on H and drive without tyre management. He might end with another M or another H, and is going to end P4 after a mega fight with RUS.

Everyone starting with mediums or softs…

Hamilton: alright let’s start with Hards so that you have no chance of gaining any places at the start

No sense at all! Now let’s enjoy a DRS train from Alonso all the way to Tsunoda…

I have a strange feeling of a Leclerc win this weekend. I know he doesnt have a great track record on this track but feel like he is going to hook it up in qualifying and defend with all his might in the race.
I wish I had this much copium
:D :D :D
I maybe wrong, looks like this isn't copium. Leclerc might just win this.
