Doesn't matter? He was reigning Oscar in over the last 6 races. I thought he was going to nip it to the title, before today.

Im think it was anyone's title, and not nailed on for either. But Lando had been clawing it back, and was likely in the ascendancy. But this is just to big a loss, especially as the car is so far away the best. Its looks impossible to not come first or second.

It certainly was anyone's, but I just thought Lando was the slight favourite.

But it isn't over, Oscar also has an older Merc engine.

I did expect Oscar to be close to Lando this year, as I said at the start of the year. Since Lando got back up to speed, he was starting to impose himself on the championship and Oscar, slightly. But that's in the dirt now.

Sad thing is, that I think Oscar will outdevelop Lando. But, next years car will be a lottery in terms of the driver's style that suits it.

I dont think Oscar will improve drastically, I think they will stay very close.

But..its likely George Russell romps the title next year!

Maybe. For me, Oscar's improvement each year is not slowing. He's keeping to his trajectory. His head is down and he quietly and relentlessly just gets on with the job.

he only gets the penalty when he uses a new engine, not when its added to the pool - thats if it was the engine. If it was a unit close to end of life he may not need a penalty at all. Im guessing they would be using a different engine at monza from Zandvoort

Sorry but what do you expect him to do? Give up the inside to let his title rival through? Lando should just immediately jump on the outside and try that option as soon as Oscar points right. Covers Max, also gives him a chance to maybe overtake his rival.

He waits out behind Oscar for too long so Max gets alongside him. Not sure why you would "blame" Oscar for Lando losing out to Max.

Same in Hungary. His only focus is Lando.

Though both times Lando had decent starts but blocked off, fairly.

Progression vs teammate. He got better over the course of last year.

The MCL39 is very good on the tyres, so this has removed a big part of Lando's advantage to be fair to Lando.
If this was last years car I expect it would be close but Oscar behind a little.

why? The advantage Mercedes have as the Engine manufacturer is fairly small. Mercedes have never got their head around the car for this whole regulation cycle. Something isnt clicking in that team

Isn't all the talk that Merc are ahead on next year. They've struggled this time, but obviously have form on nailing new regs.

I also feel Monza won’t be a slam dunk for McLaren either. If Lando has to start P11 or 12 he’ll do VERY well finish on the podium

So was that Lando's last engine?

I think they have both used all 3 ICEs at some point.
To be honest, it looked to me that the engine didn’t go pop, so maybe they stopped the car before it totally ran out of oil- if it was an oil leak
