I'm not sure if i've heard that exhaust-modulating sound for a launch. Up until last year, I have heard it mostly during off-throttle / braking. Mercedes had a pretty clean MGU-H energy recovery method up until the recent engine change, which while not as exciting as Honda's (personal opinion), it was still audibly prominent and consistent at races.
Not only can the MGU-K charge ES only when the rear axle is 'rotating', but also when the car is moving at past 50 km/h, and to me it looks like when the car is moving at 50 km/h the MGU-K will be more like deploying than harvesting.Tommy Cookers wrote: ↑22 Jan 2026, 19:34fwiw I disagree ....

There's no mechanical reason for that. No one quoted any regs in this regard so far either.
To me, it sounds like some revs before start harvesting, and then a quite heavy load applied (harvesting).
It's easier to make a slow rating engine efficient than a fast rotating one. If it is fully disengaged, the start will be slow due to the time needed to engage the clutch.

At a standing start the MGU-K can only be used after the first 50 meters or when the car attains 50 km/h.
