yeh, kinda already covered that earlier..

££-wise, if he was being offered £4-5m at Brawn & McLaren were offering a little more, and he's lost both those seats, he'll have to take whatever Renault offer him, or he's off to Lotus, as Xpensive joked!

This is Damon Hill all over again..

Haha well it'll be a great joke if the last team that stumbled into 2010 ends up with #1 on its car..

In his favour tho, i hear Jenson does a mean ham & cheese toasted sandwich =P~

I think that McLaren just lost a huge piece of cash flow. Kimi's salary ideas are certainly out of question. Heidfeld may be a a piece of the total deal between Haug and Dennis. It would not be bad for either side. Merc would get a German driver in the red/silver car and McLaren would save some money they urgently need to buy back the shares. Paying Nick's salary for two years would be peanuts compared to what Merc used to pay in McLaren driver salaries.

i understand and respect your thinking, of Merc spreading the German drivers around but....

...they couldn't get Schumacher when McLaren wanted sponsorship control, they couldn't get Heidfeld there when McLaren wanted Kimi, they couldn't get Rosberg when McLaren wanted Heikki.

So now during McLaren's new-found independence, McLaren will be influenced into taking a driver that's their current 3rd choice..?

Well, I'm not saying it will happen but there would be a certain money sense in it. In the past McLaren obviously got 50% of their driver salary purse from Mercedes without any strings attached. This hypothetical deal would be on very clear terms.

I guess Merc would want Button + Rosberg in the silver cars. or Heidfeld.

Haug also loves Kimi... with their new found team, they definitely have the resources to have him over Button.

When considering German drivers, why does Heidfeld keep getting mentioned but Glock & Sutil do not? All 3 would likely have similar salary demands, but 2 are on the way up while the other is beyond his peak (IMO).

Heidfeld is a safe pair of hands, relyable racer, dosnt wreck his race often as well as being a better racer than qualifyer. Glock, good driver, will probably fina a home at either Manor or Renault/Nissan F1. Sutil, best placed for another season at Force India before either a leap to a works team or a leap out of F1.

Haug said some surprises for Mercedes GP, im going to say that they are going with Rosberg/Raikkonenn for 2010 if Jenson goes with McLaren, whitch he be stupid going there, if he stays at Mercedes/Brawn i think that he could be teamed with Kimi or Rosberg.

Nissan/Renault ... I'm growing to like that. More synergy between F1 and the Z series than a Laguna!

Brave from the guardian running with a story based on rumors and luck, but they havent been wrong to date this year.

Good on Jenson imo, he's obviously up for the challenge to go against LH and he's doing British sport a favour. I'm slightly surprised, he's built up a family at Brawn and turning his back on those engineers will be difficult, but obviously he's after the cash and the best car on the grid which I believe Brawn wouldn't be able to offer, Mclaren has the brains and engineers not Mercedes...

Mclaren could turn their car around this year, Brawn struggled.

I've read the Guardian story, and it's rubbish. Basically, they've dressed it up as some sort of scoop that they have but if you read the article it's a hashed up version of every other story that's been running today. No one else is saying what they're saying. Jenson simply does not want to go to McLaren, the Brawn offer to him has not gone away and everybody is still trying to force the hand of everyone else. Raikkonen is merely waiting on where Jenson goes.
