I do not know what a big press release for Newey's arrival has anything to do with a B-spec car being strategically withheld until the Honda upgrade.

My understand is that part of the engine upgrades from Honda is new engine mounts, the permanent vibration fix, that might require slight chassis mods. That might make new parts incompatible with the current config. That is my guess.

I would assume that too. If it is going to be a B-spec car, let it truly be a B-spec car so that they have some idea on development for 2027.

Adrian says after Melbourne a decision was made to not do small updates at all, instead they decided to take their time to put systems in place,do the research much more carefully because car was rushed for Australia, take the shortterm pain and than make bigger steps whit update.
It's expected before summer break,so in Belgium.

If you watch the video around here. Someone took the time to find sections of track where all teams where out of battery. It shows that the Honda ICE is down 10KPH to everyone else.

That video is from the Japanese GP, before the full vibration fix was implemented (prototype trialed in practice only) and they were playing it safe to ensure the teams first full race distance. They weren't able to run at full rpm or power (at least not in the GP itself) as the vibration was killing the Energy Stores.

Miami and Canada show a more true picture, despite the overheating issues in Miami and the gearbox issues at both rounds. They still have a regen/deployment deficiency (at least in part due to gearbox issues) but Honda needs to improve their ICE in the same way that Audi and Ferrari do, yet Ferrari can challenge at the front.

To suggest the team's performance deficit is mostly down to their power unit is delusional at this point.

They are miles away on power from Audi and Ferrari. Because of the deployment rules in Monaco the ICE deficit is exposed even more clearly. The telemetry is unlike anything I’ve seen on this track, 50+ HP to the nearest rival no doubt.

Considering the gearbox issues Alonso and team members have been talking about all weekend, it should be no surprise they'd be running conservative in the FP sessions. Not to mention their PU parts pool concerns. Constant issues with gear sync, overall lack of grip, and running very marginal on cooling would also help explain these differences.

It's a real difference and we appreciate you sharing the telemetry, but the context is important as always.

I never spoke about performance, just speed. In your post you wrote about how the Honda PU wasn't that far off from the others. I wanted to clarify that it is. I didn't disagree with anything else you wrote.

I understand, and to be clear I'm one of many who appreciate your posts here - they add to the forum in a positive way (which sadly has become more rare over time) and I agree the PU was substantially down on both power and speed in the Japanese GP, my point was that they were still forced to run lower power modes to keep the ES alive.
In Miami (at times, as they were suffering from overheating) and Canada (if you look past the early end to deployment on the main straight) the picture looked very different. Down on ICE power yes, but when at full output it's not looking that much worse than Ferrari, and the same can be said for Audi.

We've heard that both Honda and Ferrari weren't 100% happy with their ICE performance leading up to pre-season, missing their power targets, etc. and now we know why.
