That's the thing: Toto doesn't need Max now. But what if Merc's advantage is already gone next season, and Toto had a chance to sign Max but didn't? Are we sure Kimi and George can make a difference in a non-dominant car? If we look at Norris and Piastri now, they are vanilla without the dominant car.

As Wache and Newey have said, Max allows more freedom in design because he doesn't necessarily need a balanced car.
It would be a very expensive waste of money to hire Max now. Kimi is the best driver on the grid. Why spend tens of millions complicating that.
Why indeed
His fans just want him in the best car and team all of sudden :D. He should win with that boat After him and his camp pushed Horner out. Nah, he should stay at redbull and build the team up. If I was merc I'll rather go with Oscar or Charles. They seem to be more of a team player than Max and won't disrupt the team.

.
Excuse me?! Who pushed Horner out? Mintzlaff tried to push Horner out from January 2024 with saying he had an affair with his PA!!
He asked van Haren to made that public. And van Haren was stupid enough to do so.
At that time Horner's friend Yoovidhya owned 51% of RB GmbH.
As soon as he hadn't 51% anymore but 49% Mateschitz and Yoovidhya and Mintzlaff pushed him out of his job at Red Bull!!

Direct quote from Jos verstappen himself. Sources are from CNN and motorsport week.

Jos Verstappen has delivered several explosive quotes about Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, most notably warning in March 2024 that, "The team is in danger of being torn apart. There is tension here while he remains in position.

"He further escalated the situation during the 2024 season, criticizing Horner's behavior as "childish" and later telling Horner to "cut the crap" regarding the team's performance struggles.

now that he doesn't have the car to fight everyone is to blame but their camp. He should stay at redbull or take a sabbatical. Let drivers who has grown with their team deserve the fastest car at mercedes like he did with redbull

Let's not dig up ancient history

Huge meeting at red Bull headquarters today

Senior leadership including Thai side, Austrian side, verstappen, and his management.

Sort of meeting where max commits his future or tells them he's leaving

If there is movement of max to another team, now is the sort of timeframe when he'd inform the team

Maybe a more definite angle is that max's contract should come out the week of the austrian GP. if it doesn't, he's leaving

Wolff has a new number one and Russell. Why does he need competition? I can understand Wolff's stand in case Antonelli was useless. But he is driving extremely well. In fact too well.
The FIA folds on a royal flush.

Thats probably all standard PR even if he was considering a move.

WOuldn't want things unsettled unless he had completely committed to a a move.

Max won't go to Mercedes. His main problem is the engine rules, not the job Red Bull is doing with them. He'll either retire or stay with Red Bull for 27.

That explains where the total superior dominance of Mercedes disappeared after the first 2 races compared to now :)

RB with Verstappen worst start ever after 6 races but his first season with the best engine. Something smells bad here.

Mercedes nerfed their engine 2014 and onwards and just extracted just enough to win 7 straight Championships.

Let's see if FIA have smartened up since then :)
